Rural Intersection Safety Study

Background Information
Banford Intersection.JPG

As the City grows, traffic volumes are increasing on many of the City’s rural roads. Most of the City’s collisions are centred within urban areas, however, rural collisions are usually at higher speeds and lead to greater injuries. Abbotsford completed a rural safety study in 2020 that led to several low-cost improvements and safer roads. The City of Chilliwack is looking to complete a similar study to make our roads safer too.

Project Details

As part of this project, the City’s consultant will review rural collision data, determine the greatest frequency and types of collisions, review dozens of intersections in person, and make safety recommendations for all intersections and detailed recommendations at locations with the top collision potential.Kitchen and Ballam Intersection.JPG

Changes that will come out of this study may include new and/or bigger signage, road markings, new intersection controls, and improved vegetation management, among other recommendations.

  • Onsite Evaluation – Fall 2025
