Each year thousands of people from Chilliwack, the Fraser Valley, Greater Vancouver and beyond hike, mountaineer, mountain bike, climb, camp, backcountry ski, snowshoe, ATV and hunt in the North Cascade Mountains, fish, kayak, and raft the Fraser and Chilliwack Rivers sail, boat and swim Cultus and Chilliwack Lakes, fly, hang glide and paraglide in the air above Chilliwack.

Over 75 times each year, Chilliwack Search and Rescue is called upon to help those in need who by misfortune, lack of experience or poor judgment find themselves in trouble.

CSAR is a volunteer organization working under the direction of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Provincial Emergency Program, Emergency Heath Services and the Coroner, and in coordination with the Chilliwack Fire Department, CSAR responds to emergencies anywhere in 1100 square kilometers of urban, rural, mountainous, swift water and wilderness terrain - a mandate that stretches from the Vedder Canal to Chilliwack Lake, from the US border to the Fraser River.

At the request of the Provincial Coroners Service and strictly on a volunteer basis, CSAR members will help in recoveries of a difficult and/or technical nature.

Plane crashes in remote areas, drowning victims, cliff recoveries; train mishaps are some of the recent tragedies that CSAR members have been called upon to help out with.
