Slope Stabilization and Rock Fall Prevention
Thornton Road Slope Stabilization
Project Details
The City will be completing slope stabilization in response erosion and intense stormwater runoff that occurred during an atmospheric river event in December 2025. The project will include a reinforced cast-in-place concrete retaining wall with micropiles and soil anchors at the base of the slope. Large rock armouring will be placed above the wall on a flatter slope for energy dissipation and erosion control. Road side drainage will be improved on both sides of Thornton Road that were affected by the rain event.
Timeline
Work is scheduled to take place between mid-October and December.
Traffic Management
Single-lane traffic will be maintained throughout the duration of the project. Residents and commuters may use Extrom Road to bypass construction activities.

Chilliwack Lake Rock Fall Prevention
Project Details
The City will be constructing a rockfall attenuator and a barrier to reduce the risk of rockfall on Chilliwack Lake Road.
Timeline
This project is scheduled to be completed in December.
