Sunset Drive Storm and Sanitary Sewer Replacement
Current Works
The City's contractor began works on the sanitary forcemain on Hodgins Avenue and south on Sunset Drive to Westview Avenue.
The roadway on Westview Avenue terminating at the boundary with Bernard Elementary will be used for construction materials and equipment. Residents are encouraged to use on-street parking along Glenwood Street, Barton Avenue and Vines Street.
Completed Works
Storm drainage works are now complete in within the school district property and the Fraser Health parking lot.

Timeline
This project began in August with an estimated completion by November.
Project Details
Utility upgrades will occur on Sunset Drive and Westview Avenue and within the field area of Bernard Elementary. The existing storm drainage network in this area drains to a single storm pipe. The storm pipe has reached the end of its service life and has become difficult to maintain with higher risk of failure. The project will improve road drainage by replacing the aged stormwater infrastructure and increasing pipe capacity.
The sanitary system will also be upgraded, replacing pipes that are difficult to maintain and reducing potential of sewer backup. The proposed sewer force main will connect to an existing stub connection on the newly constructed pump station force main on Hodgins Avenue. The proposed force main extension will include provisions to allow the use of the existing sanitary gravity main on Westview Avenue and Sunset Drive.
After utility installation is completed, the east half of Sunset Drive and the portion of Westview Avenue east of Sunset Drive will be fully restored with new pavement so no utility trench cuts remain. Any work within the School District property will be completed before classes return to session following summer break with the field fully restored.
Traffic Management
During the project, Sunset Drive will be subject to intermittent full road closures within the closed portion of the road. Local residents’ access will be accommodated throughout construction. When the full road closure is not in effect, traffic will be single lane alternating.
