The Seniors Connect Café occurs the first and third Thursday of each month at Homer Restaurant (46090 Yale Road) and every second and fourth Thursday at Royal Canadian Legion Vedder Golden 280 (5661 Vedder Road). Drop in between 10:00am and 12:00pm on these dates for a free cup of coffee or tea and for a conversation. There is a facilitator present at each event. The Chilliwack Community band are performing for the Battle of Britain Ceremonies on SEPT 22nd at 1:00pm at the Chilliwack Memorial behind the MUSEUM.

Generation Health is a FREE 10-week healthy lifestyle program for children and their families. We will be meeting weekly (Monday evenings) at the Chilliwack YMCA as of Sept 30th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. During the first hour of the program, we have a group facilitator that educates children and parents about various topics related to healthy living such as: healthy eating, active living, goal setting, healthy body image and self esteem, etc. During the second hour, the children have time for play-based exercise in the gym with a physical activity specialist while the parents cover additional topics with the group facilitator around positive family mealtimes and physical activity experiences, cooking and playing together, and positive parenting. Families who participate in this program will receive a FREE 6 month membership to YMCA Chilliwack. Crossroads presents the artworks by Karlie Norrish McChesney. Karlie’s art making frequently explores her love of perspective and structural form.  Her art practice requires much measuring, calculating and arranging of colour, so much so that her work is a form of puzzle solving. Her preferred medium is fibre in the form of stitched textiles with an element of mixed media applied to the surface or standing as an installation accompanying the 2D work; these materials include paint, paper, plastic, metal, clay, and/or wood. This body of work is her response to a time of great change in her life, where many decisions were required. All the pieces of work contain a path representing the choices a person has available to them and a container representing the restrictions or parameters that influence the decision making process. Karlie is a retired art teacher from the Chilliwack School District.  She is an active member in SAQA (Studio ArtQuilts Association), FAN (Fibre Art Network) and in the CVAA (Chilliwack Visual Artists Association). This is Karlie’s first solo exhibition and she is very excited to share it with you. She invites everyone to join her at the opening reception on October 12, 2019 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm in the O’Connor Group Art Gallery, 9201 Corbould Street, Chilliwack, B.C.  The exhibition runs from October 10 to November 16. Gallery hours are 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm, Wednesday to Saturday, as well as 6:30 – 7:00 pm preceding evening theatre performances.  Admission is free. Learn the power of positive touch with your baby. Through massage, your baby may experience improved digestion, better sleep and stress relief. Please bring along a blanket to lay your baby down on. For children who are in the pre-crawling stage. No older siblings. Registration required and begins September 16. The Chilliwack Songs of Praise Orchestra(CSOPO) is a group of enthusiastic musicians including full woodwind and string sections. The CSOPO usually performs at 6 different venues in a season. The format always includes numerous Sing Along favourites. Upcoming is a special at St. Paul's Church on School Street November 3, at 3:30 pm. Next is a Christmas special at the Alliance Church on Young Road. Hope to see you there.

Join a qualified sign language instructor and communicate with your baby before they can talk! The first session (adults only) is for parents and caregivers to learn how to sign using handouts, videos and interactive games. The next three interactive Sign, Say and Play dates allow you to practice what you have learned (with baby in attendance). This program is geared towards babies six months and older. Registration is required and begins Wednesday, October 23. Please call or drop by the library to sign up.

Learn basic crochet stitches and make a simple dishcloth in this introduction to crochet class, suitable for adults and teens 13 and up. All supplies are provided for this free class. Registration required.

This hands-on event will teach parents and caregivers new ways to play with your baby or toddler and encourage early literacy at the same time. Come to play and go away with ideas to try at home. This event is best suited for babies and toddlers 2 years old and younger with a parent or caregiver.

10 am – 11:30 am

Join clarinetist and former military musician Jack Kopstein for a trip down memory lane as he plays the well known music that stirred Canadians on the home front and in the theatres of war.

11 am – 12 pm

Everyone should know how money works. Join special guest, Cik Mei Tjan, Financial Educator from World Financial Group, to discuss financial concepts that are crucial for individuals to know and understand in order to manage and grow their assets. Question and answer period will follow the presentation.

7 pm – 8:30 pm

Engineering staff and RCMP will be on hand to answer your questions and receive your comments about roundabouts. Handouts, one-on-one chats, information boards and much more will be available to enhance discussions. This is a drop-in session; please feel welcome to stop by when it is convenient for you.

The Friends of the Chilliwack Libraries Society will be holding a one day book sale blitz! There will be books, CDs, DVDs, audiobooks and magazines for $5 a bag (bag provided).

After a super successful event in August, we are up again! The Fraser Valley Conservancy is hosting an invasive plant pull along Luckakuck Creek to improve stream health for fish, wildlife and birds! We will be removing invasive plants that are encroaching along the stream in order to protect all of the trees planted by students from Chilliwack Secondary in October. Come out any time between 9 am and 2 pm to the Luckakuck Creek Trail (Luckakuck Place) to help for a few hours. We will provide gloves and all necessary tools for the event. Please bring good footwear, warm clothes and water.

Bring in a donation of cash or an unwrapped gift and get a free hot dog, chips and drink. We are in need of cash, gifts for teenagers, toys, mom gift sets, and stocking stuffers. Come down and help us fill bins to support the Ann Davis Society.

Local REALTORS(R) collect blankets, coats, warm clothing for the homeless. Gently used clothing items are welcome. Packages of new socks and underwear, greatly appreciated.

Come celebrate multiculturalism! Learn about newcomers' resources, participate in English class activities and munch on international cookies.

Students work together in teams to design, create and test a variety of items; everyday materials are used to solve challenging science and engineering problems. Presentation by UFV’s “Let’s Talk Science”. For ages 8 to 11 years old, registration required, call or drop by the library to sign up.

11 am – 12 pm

$3.00 for coffee, plate of goodies abd two door prize entries. A table will be set up to accept donations of toiletries, underwear, coffee, tea, hot chocolate for Communitas. Single serve containers of homemade soup will be available to purchase. Mastercard & Visa accepted.
