The Seniors Connect Café occurs every first and third Thursday of each month at the IHOP Restaurant in Chilliwack and every second and fourth Thursday at the Homer Restaurant. Drop in between 10:00am and 12:00pm on these dates for a free cup of coffee or tea and for a conversation. There is a facilitator present at each event. There is also a resource person present to answer any questions you may have about community and health care resources. All older adults are welcome! No membership needed and no cost attached!

Coming to the O’Connor Group Art Gallery at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre from July 4 - August 3 is The Way We See It exhibit, featuring Chilliwack artists: Zidonja Ganert, Greg Laxton-Ekberg and Vickie Legere. As artists, we see the world through the eyes of wonder. Our choice of visual mediums is vastly different. Zidonja primarily paints in a nostalgic style, Greg paints with a whimsical, ‘posterized’ style and Vickie photographs both the marvelous and the mundane. We create art to say ‘something’ about what we feel about the subject – not just to make a pretty picture. Opening reception is July 6, 1-3pm. Everyone welcome. Wednesdays, July 10 – August 14. Every Wednesday during the summer, the Chilliwack Library, in partnership with the City of Chilliwack, will be hosting Storytime in the Park! Each week will feature something special; check it out! In the event of extreme weather, storytime will be moved indoors. This community program is brought to you in part by funding provided by the City of Chilliwack. Storytimes will run 10:30 am – 11 am, followed by special guests from 11 am – 11:30 am.

Children get a mix of art and environmental education. Our art teacher will explore different artistic techniques, working with multiple mediums to showcase the importance of art in different fields of work. For the nature portion, kids will be outside connecting to the unique habitat of the reserve, including pond life, frog habitats, and beaver programs. Children will be divided into two different age groups to enjoy artistic mentoring and the joys of playing outside with a knowledgeable environmental educator.

For ages 5-14.

6-3 hour workshops offered free of charge from 1:00pm to 4:00pm on Mondays and Wednesdays starting on August 7th. The workshops are on: enhancing your active listening skills, making brief action plans, learning to recognize the red flags of adult abuse, learning how to converse about advance care planning and much more!

Open from August 8 to 24, Expressions is a collection of art forms which reveal the passion and individuality of contributing Chilliwack Visual Artists. Bold, intuitive and playful expressions captured in sculptures, paintings, ceramics, multimedia, photographs and fabric art. Opening reception is August 10, 1-3 pm. Everyone welcome. The Fair is an opportunity to celebrate all that the community has to offer and despite being the foundation on which it was built, the Fair is about much more than agriculture. We are proud to feature many local artists, organizations and businesses throughout the Fair. Opportunities to participate in the Fair are countless, whether as a 4-H member showing a favourite animal, an entrant in the annual Fruit Pie Baking Contest, an event sponsor, or a volunteer in any of a number of different capacities during fair time.

Nestled in the heart of the Fraser Valley, between Abbotsford and Chilliwack, is the hidden gem of Yarrow, BC. Thousands of people pass through our tight-knit community every summer on the way to Cultus Lake. This year, escape the traffic for a short while and join us for the Cultus Lake Flower Fest. Bring your family, friends and a picnic and take in the beauty of wildflowers, sunflowers and dahlias. We look forward to welcoming you to our family farm.

Tickets: $15 weekdays, $20 weekends. 1 ticket per car (up to 8 people per vehicle.)

The Fraser Valley Conservancy invites you to come out and help improve the health of Luckakuck Creek by identifying and pulling invasive species! Luckakuck Creek Trail runs alongside a beautiful creek home to all sorts of fish and amphibians, but in some areas invasive plants are moving in. To improve the habitat and provide food and shelter for the animals in this area, we want to replace these unwanted plants with native trees and shrubs. But before we can plant, we have to remove the invasive plants along the creek. Drop by between 9 am and 2 pm for a few hours to help us out!

Make sure you bring good footwear, sun protection and water. We will provide gloves and all of the tools needed for this project.

11 am – 12:30 pm. Create a colourful craft using these small heat-activated beads. Make a critter, rainbow heart, peace sign, Pokemon, superhero, sports logo, video game character…the possibilities are endless! Attach a key ring or magnet and you're good to go. Please allow extra time at the end of the program for the melting process. All ironing will be done by library staff. Registration required. For ages 8 to 13.

2 pm – 4 pm. Have fun learning to paint a beautiful sunset scene with the whole family. Learn basic landscape techniques using acrylic paint. Registration required, for ages 6+.

Chilliwack Opportunity Society in Partnership with the City of Chilliwack through their neighborhood grant program, will once again be hosting our annual Summer Fun Day at Gwynne Vaughan Park. Admission is free for this inclusive day of summer fun. Events include live music, lawn games, face painting, pedal carts and MORE.

11 am – 11:45 am. Have you ever wanted to see what the circus is all about? Now is your chance! Performers from Circus Lab will demonstrate their acts on a variety of aerial apparatuses during this family friendly event. This performance will take place just outside of the Sardis Library. In the event of inclement weather, please contact the library to confirm, as this program will be postponed for another day.

Join other local residents in rebuilding the fairy garden along the Vedder River. This FREE, family-friendly event will include activities for kids and adults: Build and decorate a fairy house (supplies included); Paint a ceramic figurine as a keepsake or to place in the garden; Meet United Way's mascot, Seymour the Otter; Enjoy a BBQ; Visit the newly-restored fairy village; Get to know your neighbours!

2 pm. Great Blue Herons, otters, snowy owls - discover fascinating facts about Canadian animals and their habitats. The Well Worn Trail storytellers, Rob and Lillian, use puppetry, songs and story to kindle the wonder of nature in children of all ages. Following this performance will be a Summer Reading Club Medal Ceremony.

11 am – 12 pm. Use natural stones and other fun materials to create one of a kind jewelry that is easy, fun and simple to take on and off the wrist. All tools and materials supplied. Registration required, for ages 12+.

2 pm – 4 pm. Join local artist John LeFlock for this fun and creative program. Create and design your own personal mask with various materials and techniques. Registration required.

11 am - 4 pm. Calling all muggles! Back To School At Hogwarts is returning for one magical day only! Stop by to get all of your wizarding needs taken care of! Wizarding events include:

• Practice your magical skills at our spell station

• Use your Potterheads to break into lock boxes and be entered to win a grand prize

• Get sorted into your house and be entered to win a prize

• Bring a 1.5” by 2/5” photo and make a Hogwarts school ID

• Dress up in your finest wizard gear and be green screened to Hogwarts … and much more!

11 am – 12:30 pm. Chilliwack’s Mayor and the Sardis Library honour our young readers at this Summer Reading Club Medal Ceremony. Readers who have completed seven weeks of reading will receive a medal. This event is by free invitation, available at the Sardis Library.

The Chilliwack and District Seniors’ Resources Society and the Mount Cheam Lions invite you to join us for a BBQ! Have a fun afternoon with good food and good friends. Kick up your heels to the music of Sweetwater! Your choice of hamburger or hot dog with two salads, coffee or tea and dessert. COST: $8.00
