The Seniors Connect Café occurs every first and third Thursday of each month at the IHOP Restaurant in Chilliwack and every second and fourth Thursday at the Homer Restaurant. Drop in between 10:00am and 12:00pm on these dates for a free cup of coffee or tea and for a conversation. There is a facilitator present at each event. There is also a resource person present to answer any questions you may have about community and health care resources. All older adults are welcome! No membership needed and no cost attached!

9:30 am – 10:30 am. This is not your typical yoga class...this is Family Yoga! Be ready for deep belly breaths and big belly laughs. We will have loads of FUN, regardless of your age. Yoga increases flexibility, concentration, confidence and overall well-being. No experience necessary. Registration required and begins Wednesday, June 12.

10:30 am - 11:00 am. Summer is here and so are storytimes. Introduce kids to the love of books and language with Storytime! Children and caregivers will enjoy interactive stories, songs, rhymes and more. Storytime prepares children to learn to read.

The Chilliwack Library, in partnership with the City of Chilliwack, is kicking off Summer Reading Club in style this year! Bouncy castle, crafts, face painting, watermelon and much more – sign up for Summer Reading Club while you’re at it! This is a perfect opportunity to pack and enjoy a picnic in the park and enjoy a free day of fun!

2 pm – 3 pm. Bring the kids in for some playdough fun! Playdough stimulates their senses and offers endless opportunities for imaginative play! This program is geared towards children ages 2 to 8.

Coming to the O’Connor Group Art Gallery at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre from July 4 - August 3 is The Way We See It exhibit, featuring Chilliwack artists: Zidonja Ganert, Greg Laxton-Ekberg and Vickie Legere. As artists, we see the world through the eyes of wonder. Our choice of visual mediums is vastly different. Zidonja primarily paints in a nostalgic style, Greg paints with a whimsical, ‘posterized’ style and Vickie photographs both the marvelous and the mundane. We create art to say ‘something’ about what we feel about the subject – not just to make a pretty picture. Opening reception is July 6, 1-3pm. Everyone welcome. Gallery hours are Wednesday to Saturday from noon to 5 pm. Gallery may be open for 1 hour before most shows in the Cultural Centre. Admission is free. Turn your child’s summer into something truly inspiring and creative with the Chilliwack Cultural Centre’s Summer Art Camps for Kids! Take a break from summer boredom with the terrifically fun and wildly diverse classes that offer a fantastic opportunity for your child to explore their creative side, and a flexible class schedule that is a great fit for those busy schedules! Children get a mix of art and environmental education. Our art teacher will explore different artistic techniques, working with multiple mediums to showcase the importance of art in different fields of work. For the nature portion, kids will be outside connecting to the unique habitat of the reserve, including pond life, frog habitats, and beaver programs. Children will stay in one group that spans ages 5 to 12 and will enjoy artistic mentoring and the joys of playing outside with knowledgeable environmental educators.

2 pm - 2:45 pm. Be a Bollywood star! Experience the magic and joy of dance and storytelling as Karima Essa performs Bollywood dance. Learn traditional dance moves with Karima – imagine the possibilities!

2:30 pm – 3:30 pm. Join us for construction fun! Build structures by stacking KEVA planks - no glue or connectors needed. From preschoolers up, everyone can explore engineering techniques and build at their own skill level. This program is geared towards children ages 5-12.

Wednesdays, July 10 – August 14. Every Wednesday during the summer, the Chilliwack Library, in partnership with the City of Chilliwack, will be hosting Storytime in the Park! Each week will feature something special; check it out! In the event of extreme weather, storytime will be moved indoors. This community program is brought to you in part by funding provided by the City of Chilliwack. Storytimes will run 10:30 am – 11 am, followed by special guests from 11 am – 11:30 am.

11 am – 11:45 am. Raptors Ridge will offer a rare and unique opportunity to view birds of prey up close and personal. This family friendly program will include fun and fascinating facts while promoting the identification of raptors, their natural habitat and habits associated with their surroundings. This is a ticketed event. Tickets will be available for pick up at the Sardis Library a week before the event.

A week-long camp learning and playing in the unique wetland habitat of the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve. Instructors are our environmental educators at the reserve and are skilled at working with all age groups and helping kids understand the importance and wonder of nature. Did you know that a frog swallows with its eyeballs, or that a dragonfly spends much of its life living underwater and can eat its entire body weight in food in only 30 minutes?

For ages 5-12.

11 am - 11:45 am. Puppets, poetry and props – imagine the possibilities! Join poet Tiffany Stone for poems and rhymes about flaming flamingos, baaaad animals and rainbow coloured clothes. There will be rhythm and rhyme and plenty of time for everyone to participate in the fun with words. *Events at the Sardis Library require a free ticket, available one week before the event.

2 pm – 3 pm. Add some technology to your LEGO day - create a structure or building and we'll use our green screen to put you in it! This program is geared towards children ages 5-12.

11 am - 11:45 am. Puppets, poetry and props – imagine the possibilities! Join poet Tiffany Stone for poems and rhymes about flaming flamingos, baaaad animals and rainbow coloured clothes. There will be rhythm and rhyme and plenty of time for everyone to participate in the fun with words.

10 am – 11:30 am. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs; enjoy a family-friendly library program in the park. There will be a short storytime followed by a puppet show and some popcorn and refreshments courtesy of Yarrow Envision Financial. 

Imagine the Possibilities! A Summer Puppet Show: A dissatisfied frog finds a library book and decides to change his life! Join the rollicking fun as Webster McRibbit sets out on a hilarious quest to become a prince. He has some surprising and unexpected adventures involving broccoli and a toilet brush before realizing the joyfulness of just being himself. Join Master Puppeteer and Storyteller Elspeth Bowers at the Yarrow Pioneer Park who will entertain you with stories, songs, and a puppet show at Storytime in the Park on July 17, 2019 at 10:30 am.

Lessons will include everything from sketching to 3D art to airbrushing, and we can’t wait to share it all with YOU! We’ll also have fun sketching and drawing animals that we find outside as we explore the connection of art to the natural world. All materials are provided!

For ages 8 to 14.

11 am – 12 pm. Come for an abundance of crafty goodness! We have perler beads, air-dry clay and other craft materials waiting for your imaginative touch. For ages 9-18. Registration is required, please call or drop by the Chilliwack Library to sign up.

5th Annual Barn Burner BBQ - Proudly presented by Johnston’s Pork & Fraser Valley Specialty Poultry. Join the festivities on Sunday, July 21, 10am to 4pm at the Farm Store in Yarrow. This annual BBQ competition has become Chilliwack’s tastiest community event, promoting tourism in the Fraser Valley while spreading the love, passion and joy for “Southern Style” BBQ. Fall off the bone BBQ samples await, prepared by fiercely competitive Pit Masters from across Canada and the Pacific North West. Beef Brisket, Pork, Chicken and Ribs; all slow cooked to perfection! The event features food trucks, sponsor exhibits, live music, a kids’ zone, a climbing wall and more. Entry to the event is by donation with ALL proceeds going to Envision Financial’s The Full Cupboard, a community program designed to raise food, funds, and awareness for food banks in local communities. 11 am – 12 pm. Join our workshop to create a your very own animal fridge magnets. We will work with colourful, pliable, air dry clay, decorative jewels, flowers and modeling tools. Bring your creativity; we will supply all materials and tools. Registration required, for children ages 7+.

Please join us for "The Time of Your Life" on Saturday, July 27th at the Best Western Hotel in Chilliwack, BC where you can reminisce on all things '80's! The theme is (of course) the 1980's so feel free to dress the part or simply show up and fondly recall the days of yesteryear with your fellow grads. We will also have a Silent Auction so if you have a business you'd like to promote we would gratefully accept any donations to the auction!

Played like regular BINGO but using music and entertainment trivia instead. This event was so much fun the first time, it’s back by special request! Tickets are $15.00 and available at the Chilliwack & District Seniors’ Resources Society office. Cost $15 player. Extra sets of cards can be purchased at the door for $5. Cash only.

2:30pm - 3:30 pm. Ozobot is a miniature robot that fits in the palm of your hand. It is designed for children to learn coding. It can follow lines or roam around freely, detect colours, and can also be programmed. So learn coding with us on this fun-filled afternoon. This program is geared towards children ages 8-14.
