New Playground to Open at Townsend Park this August August 3, 2018

Chilliwack, BC: The City of Chilliwack will open a new playground at Townsend Park later this month thanks, in part, to a donation from the Rotary Club of Chilliwack Mt. Cheam. The Rotary Club of Chilliwack Mt. Cheam selected this project to receive a donation of $35,000, and the City organized the installation of the equipment and funded the remaining $75,000 for the project.

The new playground equipment was selected in May, following community consultation, and the project is scheduled for completion this month. The new playground features nets, slides, belts and climbers to provide children aged 5-12 with fun challenges that promote physical development and strategic thinking, as well as the space to take breaks and socialize with other children. With multiple entry points and plenty of activities, the new play structure can accommodate many children at once.

“Playgrounds are invaluable spaces in our community; they create the opportunity for children to get outside, get active and connect with each other,” said Mayor Gaetz. “As a large community park, Townsend Park creates that opportunity for children from all over Chilliwack, and we are pleased to see its playground facilities upgraded. The Rotary Club of Chilliwack Mt. Cheam plays an important role in our community and we are grateful for its members’ continued vision and dedication to bringing joy to families in Chilliwack.”

The Rotary Club of Chilliwack Mt. Cheam is committed to helping children and youth in as many ways as possible. The Club’s major fundraiser, which was responsible for the majority of their donation to this project, takes place in May each year, and club members work hard to ensure its success so they may continue to support community enhancing projects each year.

"The Rotary Club of Chilliwack Mt. Cheam is extremely proud to support the playground upgrades at Townsend Park,” said Kim McLandress, President of Chilliwack Mt. Cheam Rotary Club. “After seeing so many families enjoy the playground facilities at Vedder Park that our club supported last year, I felt it was important to select a project for 2018 that would positively impact the children on the north side of Chilliwack.”

The new playground equipment at Townsend Park will provide an exciting and varied playground experience for many children in Chilliwack for years to come.
