Notice of Work in Rosedale Area - Exploratory Well Drilling

Earlier this year, the City hired Stantec Consulting Ltd. to conduct a groundwater feasibility study. While the City’s municipal wells provide more than enough drinking water for the community, this study will help determine if there are other locations where municipal wells could be added to diversify our drinking water sources. When the initial feasibility study was completed, locations in the Rosedale area showed good accessibility to the aquifer and a high yield of water that met water quality guidelines. Staff have determined that additional exploratory well drilling and pump tests are required in the Rosedale area to gain more information.

Drilling will take place mostly on City owned properties, such as Rosedale Park and City road right of ways, as well as other select locations. If you see a crew working, please give them space and follow any posted signage.

Impact to Residents

Work will take place within business hours from Monday to Friday. While the locations are in mostly rural areas, there may be some noise or dust associated with the work. In Rosedale Park, drilling will be located away from usual park activities (e.g. the playground, skate park) to allow continued park access.

Phase 1 is anticipated to begin the week of October 30, 2023. Additional schedule information will be posted here as it is confirmed.

About the Project

This field-based investigation will be completed in three phases:

Phase 1 Phase 2 Phase 3

• Single exploratory drill hole 70 metres in depth where water quality sampling will take place.

• A monitoring well in a select borehole will also be installed to collect groundwater samples.

• A single drill hole 30 metres in depth will be implemented to determine the stratigraphy of the site.

• A drill hole 30 metres in depth will be implemented and a pumping test will be conducted.

• Perform one constant rate flow test at one site.

Note: The implementation of Phases 2 and 3 will be influenced by the results of Phase 1.
