Clean BC Better Homes Energy Savings Program

Starting June 18th, 2024, the Province of British Columbia has introduced a new rebate program called the CleanBC Better Homes Energy Savings Program to make energy retrofits more affordable. This program is suited to those looking to make their homes more energy efficient. Based on your household income, CleanBC is offering a streamlined process to access cost savings associated with energy efficiency upgrades.

The new CleanBC Better Homes Energy Savings Program will make electric heat pumps and efficiency upgrades more affordable for low- and middle-income households across the province, helping to save on energy bills and build cleaner, more resilient communities.

Income-qualified applicants can receive a rebate of as much as $16,000 to switch to high-efficiency heat pumps in homes currently heated with oil, natural gas, and propane.

The program will also continue to provide support for other home-efficiency upgrades at current rebate levels, including insulation, windows and doors, and ventilation. It will also provide rebates of as much as $5,000 for households switching from electric baseboards to electric heat pumps, funded by BC Hydro’s energy-efficiency measures.

Benefits of Upgrading:

Energy Saving Home Upgrades:
You may be eligible to receive rebates that cover 60-100% of the costs associated with energy retrofit upgrades, including:

  • Windows and Doors: up to $9,500.00
  • Insulation: up to $5,500.00
  • Heat pumps: up to $16,000.00
  • Heat pump water heaters: $5,000.00
  • Additional rebates are available for health and safety, ventilation, and electrical panel upgrades.

Please see the CleanBC Better Homes Energy Savings Program webpage for more information.

One of the main benefits of this program is that it is the contractor’s responsibility to apply for the rebate, not the homeowner. The contractor will submit the rebate application after installing the upgrades. They will then deduct the rebate from the final cost of the upgrade.
