The licensing of child care facilities involves overlapping regulation from the Province and the City of Chilliwack, which is illustrated below.

Chilliwack Child Care Needs Assessment & Strategy
The Child Care Strategy was developed in 2019 and includes goals and strategies aimed to create more child care spaces in Chilliwack over the next 10 years. For more detail, read the strategy here.
On February 17, 2026, Planning staff updated Council on the progress of the Child Care Strategy, which showed Chilliwack has successfully reached the strategy’s access rate goal of 25% four years earlier than anticipated. You can read the report here.
