Trail Updates
Update, October 1, 2026:
Sediment removals are now complete, and trails have reopened. However, there will be intermittent trail and parking lot closures to accommodate trail restoration works and gravel removal from stockpile sites. Please respect any temporary closures while we complete this work.
Parking Lot Closures
The following parking lots remain closed at this time:
- Lickman Road (may be closed until November 13)
- Hooge Road

About the Project
This project aims to enhance flood protection along the Vedder River. Extreme weather events have deposited significantly more sediment in the Vedder River and Canal than is typical. While sediment was removed in 2022 and 2024, the additional sediment currently sitting in the Vedder River and Canal effectively increases the height of the river, resulting in increased flood risk to the City. Sediment removals will happen in August and September, during the designated in-stream works window, to help restore the river’s capacity to contain and convey floodwater. Once the project is complete, the trails will be restored to their pre-construction condition.
