The Seniors Connect Café occurs every first and third Thursday of each month at the IHOP Restaurant in Chilliwack and every second and fourth Thursday at the Homer Restaurant. Drop in between 10:00am and 12:00pm on these dates for a free cup of coffee or tea and for a conversation. There is a facilitator present at each event. There is also a resource person present to answer any questions you may have about community and health care resources. All older adults are welcome! No membership needed and no cost attached!

BC Transit, the Fraser Valley Regional District and the City of Chilliwack are inviting the public to give feedback to help shape their transit future. BC Transit will be hosting two open houses on April 1 to provide opportunities for the members of the public to share their input. Members of the public who cannot attend the open houses are invited to provide their feedback through an online survey.

10:15 – 11: 15 am Barbara invites students into the historical setting of her newly released reissue of The Mozart Girl, a middle-grade novel about the dreams and talents of twelve-year-old Nannerl Mozart, a brilliant musician and the older sister of the famous composer. Through readings and discussion, Barbara will take students on tour with the Mozart children as they play for kings and queens in the great courts of 18th century Europe. A Q & A period follows on the writing and editing process.

7 pm – 8 pm Wondering what you can do to reduce the waste you produce? Join Salina, owner of Pick Eco Refills and ocean ambassador for Plastic Oceans Canada, as she presents concrete ideas and options for working towards living a zero waste life. She will show the Plastic Ocean Canada presentation of oceans around the world clogged with debris. There will be an opportunity for discussion afterwards on what we can do to aid the clean-up and avoid contributing to the problem.

The Chilliwack & District Seniors’ Resources Society is hosting a community education on Frauds & Scams. Everyone welcome, no membership is required. Please RSVP to 604-793-9979. Unfortunately, fraudsters continue to target seniors, and it is estimated that from January 2014 to December 2016, Canadians age 60 to 79 lost almost $28 million to various scams. Kevin Haarhoof and Trevor Crane with Corporate Security department of First West Credit Union will give important information on how to keep yourself from becoming a victim. April 16 is national Advance Care Planning Day. Start talking about your health-care wishes. Ask those close to you: How well do you know me? We have resources and tools that can start an important Advance Care Planning conversation. Come check this out on April 17, 2019 at the Chilliwack Public LIbrary at 1:00pm.

3 pm – 4 pm Celebrate Earth Day by creating beautifying seed bombs resembling our earth as well as plants that thrive in water! Everyone will enjoy creating, planting, and seeing the miraculous results from both of these projects! Please note: Registration is required, and while all ages are welcome, children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult.

Wednesday, April 24, 6 - 8 pm The goal of the Transition & Resource Fair is to provide Youth and Young Adults living with Disabilities and their families with information on Education, Community Services, Health, Housing, Transportation, Recreation, Employers and Job-related services and programs. The target demographic for the fair is Middle School to Young Adult (ages 12 to 30). This is a fun and informative event which includes Pizza and Prizes!! We want to encourage young people to start thinking about their future – preparation and knowledge are the keys to creating a Plan.

An impassioned drama about the lives of eight people hiding from the Nazis in a concealed attic in occupied Amsterdam, with young Anne’s astonishing honesty, wit, and determination. A powerful story for teens and adults. Not suitable for children under 12 years old.

2 pm Jane Reid became a local food fan after moving to British Columbia, first to the productive Fraser Valley, and later to Whistler, close to the picturesque and fertile Pemberton Valley. Jane was able to combine her love of the written word with her passion for locally grown foods in her new book: “Freshly Picked: A Locavore’s Love Affair with BC’s Bounty”
