We are celebrating Heritage Week this year with a Fundraiser at Corky's Irish Pub on Thursday Feb. 22 between 5-8pm. Tickets are $15 and proceeds will go to support Heritage Chilliwack's many programs and community projects! Your ticket will get you a hamburger or veggie burger with fries. We will also have a 50/50 and silent auction. Join us for an evening of hope as we highlight the work that is taking place in our recovery programs. Our goal this year is to raise $150,000 to expand and enhance our current recovery programing. The opioid epidemic continues to have tragic effects in Chilliwack, and the Fraser East. From January to the end of August 2023, there have been 115 fatal overdoses in our region and 37 in Chilliwack alone. The highest percentage of fatal overdoses are taking place in private residences as a complex variety of factors influence people to use illicit substances in private. Jennifer Hawkins will share research on some of the factors leading to this as well as practical strategies that can be effective in reducing deaths due to unwitnessed fentanyl poisoning.
