Upcoming Projects
Road projects are planned in advance by the Engineering Department before construction begins. These projects are part of the City’s 10 year Financial Capital Plan. Planning can include updating cost estimates, determining land purchase requirements, obtaining permits or rights-of-way, applying for grants and creating a detailed design for the project.
Below are transportation projects that the Engineering Department is proceeding to design in 2025 with anticipated construction within the next 5 years. Once a construction schedule is determined, the project will get its own project webpage with further details. Current projects can be found on our Highlighted Projects page.
Chadsey Road and Keith Wilson Road Intersection
The intersection will be realigned to better accommodate truck turning. It will require a culvert extension to accommodate these improvements.
Chilliwack River Road and Knight Road Intersection
The intersection will be improved to incorporate Ranchero Drive, lessen congestion during peak volumes and improve intersection safety. Preliminary design is underway, including analysis of the traffic operations and available footprint to determine the optimal solution for converting the stop-sign controlled intersection to a roundabout or signalized intersection.
Chilliwack Mountain Road and Schweyey Road Intersection
Design is underway for a new traffic signal improving traffic flow at the Chilliwack Mountain Road and Schweyey Road intersection within existing available land. A future roundabout is being considered in the long term, however it will require significant land acquisition beyond the 5 year time horizon.
Lickman Road and Progress Way Intersection
An engineering consultant has been hired to analyze the intersection and determine the preferred solution to improve traffic flow, either a roundabout or signalized intersection.
Luckakuck Way and Topaz Intersection
A design is underway for improvements to the intersection to improve traffic flow and safety for all road users.
Vedder Road and Luckakuck Way Intersection
The design will include widening the intersection and adjusting lanes to maximize efficiency. Signal timings will be improved for better traffic flow.
Yale Road and Airport Road Intersection
Planning is underway to realign the intersection to maximize the efficiency of traffic and add a dedicated northbound right-turn lane.
Yale Road – Parr Road to Vedder Road Phase 2
A design is underway to include a multi-use pathway with a boulevard and street trees on the east side of Yale Road. Phase 1 was completed in 2024, which included a multi-use pathway with a boulevard and street trees on the west side.
Young Road - Highway 1 to Airport Road
This project will widen the road to four travel lanes to improve traffic flow, enhance pedestrian and cycle infrastructure and improve streetlighting.
