Project Details

As part of the City of Chilliwack’s commitment to providing residents with reliable and cost-effective service, the City has retained Ballina Contracting to complete the 2025 Sardis Vedder Trunk Sewer Project. This project involves the replacement of the aging sewer main and providing adequate capacity for our City’s future growth.

Construction is currently underway. During excavation, the contractor encountered unforeseen site conditions that affected the pace of construction and the anticipated completion timeline. To help mitigate further delays and support completion of the work before school resumes, the contractor has requested changes to the current construction schedule.

These temporary changes is expected to provide the Contractor with additional time to complete the remaining work safely and efficiently while working toward the anticipated project completion timeline.

Vedder and Luckakuck Sanitary Upgrades

Location: Vedder Road and Luckakuck Way

Date and Time: September 21 - November 20, 9 pm – 7 am

Traffic Management: Traffic configuration will be modified such that each access into the Vedder & Luckakuck intersection is throttled into a single lane. Please follow posted signage and the direction of the Traffic Control Persons. Expect delays and plan accordingly.

Current Works: Mainline installation of new sanitary sewer gravity main along Luckakuck Way. All work to be done between 9 pm – 7 am, expect delays and plan accordingly.

Project Details: Currently, the sanitary sewer gravity main (pipe) along Luckakuck Way provides sewage services for the industrial, commercial and residential properties along Luckakuck Way, as well as portions of Vedder Road and Amber Drive, before it is collected along Luckakuck Place and conveyed to the Sardis Vedder trunk. A section of the existing 200mm diameter AC gravity sanitary main at the Vedder Road and Luckakuck Way intersection has experienced settlement and is expected to have capacity issues in the near future. The existing 200 mm diameter AC pipe will be abandoned and replaced by a new 300 mm diameter PVC pipe. The work will entail the construction of approximately 120 m of new pipe east-to-west through the intersection to address settlement and to increase the overall capacity of the system.

Additionally, the existing 300mm AC gravity sanitary main (which is expected to collect sewage from Luckakuck Way and Vedder Road) is also expected to have capacity issues in the near future and will be replaced by a new 600 mm diameter PVC pipe.
