Cart Selection
In the new curbside collection program, residents will receive standardized carts for garbage and recycling, similar to the green cart used for compostable waste. Cart size selection will be available from September 1 - 30, 2025.
If you'd like to select your carts in person, drop in at one of our cart selection events:
- September 9th, 6-8pm: Promontory Elementary School
- September 13th, 10am-2pm: Downtown Chilliwack Market
- September 15th, 5-7:30pm: City Hall Lobby
- September 17th, 3-7pm: Outside Cheam Centre
- September 21st, 12-5pm: Cottonwood Mall, outside of the mall enterance near Save-On-Foods
Property owners will receive a letter and a cart selection form with more details during the first week of September. Each letter contains a unique account number and access code. Residents can use the account number and access code to select their carts online at chilliwack.com/carts, submit the form by mail, drop the form off at City Hall, or scan and email the form to [email protected]. If you haven’t received a letter, you can also use the account number and access code on your utility bills to access the online cart selection webpage.
To select carts suitable for your household, please consider the following:
- Properties that have a single detached dwelling with a secondary suite, garden suite or coach house will share one set of carts and pay for one service.
-
Larger properties where the location of the coach house or garden suite makes sharing carts problematic can contact the City at 604.793.2787 or [email protected] to discuss adding a second curbside service.
-
- Properties with three to four units (ex., single detached dwelling with a secondary suite and coach house, a triplex or fourplex) will share two sets of carts and pay for two services.
- Properties that have multiple single detached dwellings (ex., two single detached dwellings, or a single detached dwelling plus a manufactured home) will continue to have one curbside service per dwelling.
- Residents in non-wildlife areas will keep their existing green cart unless a size exchange or damaged cart replacement is requested.
- 80L carts are no longer available in the new program. If a resident has an 80L cart, they may continue to use it, but no new 80L carts can be ordered.
- Wildlife areas will be receiving wildlife-resistant carts for garbage, recycling, and compostable waste collection. The smallest wildlife-resistant compostable waste cart is 120L. If no cart is selected, you will receive a wildlife-resistant cart in the same size as your existing green cart. If a resident has an 80L and does not select a new cart, they will receive a 120L compostable waste cart.
- If you live in a strata that is a part of the City’s Curbside Collection Program and waste collection fees are billed to the strata, units will be issued standard cart sizes determined by the Strata Council.
- If you do not select carts for your property, the City will assign the appropriate default carts for your property type:

After cart delivery in April 2026, cart size exchange requests can be made using the online cart exchange portal, by emailing [email protected], or by calling 604.793.2787. Requests will be compiled and the cart exchanges will take place after July 1, 2026.
Cart size exchange requests must be made by property owners. Tenants, please discuss cart sizes with your landlord. Any additional cart exchanges after the one-time free cart exchange will be at a rate of $50.00/cart, charged to the property owner.
