Have Your Say on the City of Chilliwack’s 2027 Budget October 20, 2026

Chilliwack, BC: The City invites residents to share their priorities and provide input as the City develops its 2027 budget. Visit engagechilliwack.com/2027Budget to learn more and have your say.

Until November 8, residents can go online and participate in the 2027 Financial Plan survey. In the survey, residents will be asked to share their opinion about which City services they would personally prioritize. This feedback is provided to Council and considered when the City updates its 10-year Financial Plan, or budget. Residents can provide additional comments to Council regarding the budget at the Public Information Meeting, tentatively planned for January 2027.

The 2027 – 2036 Financial Plan will identify short-term needs and plan for long-term growth and infrastructure without relying on borrowing debt. The Financial Plan must balance the cost of providing city services with maintaining reasonable property tax rates, while responding to factors outside the City’s control, such as inflation and rising costs for materials, construction and other goods and services and ensuring financial sustainability for the future.

Under provincial legislation, property taxes are the City of Chilliwack’s primary source of revenue for funding city services. The City utilizes these funds to support the delivery of services and infrastructure and to carefully plan a long-term sustainable budget while avoiding debt. The City also collects revenue through user fees, such as utility bills for water, sewer, and garbage collection to offset costs for certain services. The City must develop a balanced budget each year, meaning it cannot spend more than the revenues available.

Residents can take the survey online or in person:

  • Online at engagechilliwack.com/2027Budget
  • In person at City Hall (pick up a hard copy of the survey from City Hall and return it in person or by mail to 8550 Young Road, Chilliwack, BC V2P 8A4, c/o Finance Department)

If you have any access needs or additional questions about this survey, please contact the Finance Department directly at [email protected] or 604.792.9311.
