TELUS contribution allows for addition to new Skate Park in Sardis May 1, 2012

Thanks to a new TELUS funding campaign, Chilliwack boarders and BMX riders will all be able to practice their skills at the new skate park in Sardis.

"TELUS's generous $40,000 contribution has allowed us to add a bowl into the design for the riders, along with the Plaza for the boarders," says Mayor Sharon Gaetz. "This will make the park more exciting for a broader group of users."

The skate park design was developed after consultation with park users through an Open House and social media. The design will be displayed at Watson Glen Park, the new park site in Sardis, as well as on the Sardis Skatepark Facebook page. The City continues to invite feedback on the design and any necessary changes will be done as the tender process to build the park, advances.

The new Skate Park in Sardis is scheduled to be completed in mid- August 2012. In the meantime, a temporary skate park will be set up at Twin Rinks within the week. It will be located on the sports box next to the tennis courts.

The total cost for the skate park project in Sardis is $300,000.
