The department operates a number of facilities, coordinates the use of numerous sports fields and parks and is responsible for community events, public art and facility maintenance. The department operates, coordinates and allocates various facilities such as: ♦28 civic facilities. ♦126 outdoor grass sports fields. ♦Four synthetic turf facilities. ♦Evergreen Hall and The Landing Sports Centre. ♦Heritage Park. ♦The Cheam Leisure Centre and the Chilliwack Landing Leisure Centre. ♦The Rotary Pool. ♦The Sardis Sports Complex. ♦The Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve. 2025 HIGHLIGHTS Received an award from the Rick Hansen Foundation for accessibility upgrades at Evergreen Hall. 139,947 VISITS TO CHEAM LEISURE CENTRE 116,000 VISITORS TO LANDING LEISURE CENTRE 91,403 VISITORS TO CULTURAL CENTRE 344 VISITS TO ROTARY POOL Public Art Supported installation of the new Pelólxw marker at Five Corners. Program and Services Partnerships provided over $425,000 in funding for: • Chilliwack and District Seniors' Resource Society. • Community schools. • Chilliwack Community Services. • Youth Bowl Canada (YBC). • Great Blue Heron Nature Society. • Tourism Chilliwack. • Chilliwack Cultural Society. Canada Day Celebration • 12,000+ attendees. • 16 food vendors. • Drone show. • Kids and tots zone. • Live entertainment. • Community booths. Celebration and Activity Grant • 29 events supported. • 3,265 residents participated. • Provided $6,929 in Neighbourhood Grant funding to support block parties. * * Image designed using resources by Freepik.com The Utility Operations Department provides water and sewer services to over 20,000 properties within municipal boundaries. Utility Operations maintains and operates: UTILITY OPERATIONS y 64 sanitary pump stations. y 19 water reservoirs. y 15 potable water pump stations. y 10 drinking water production wells. y Four drainage pumping stations. y Over 1,500 km of sanitary sewer mains and water distribution pipes. 2025 HIGHLIGHTS The department is also responsible for overseeing and monitoring drinking water quality as well as the operation and maintenance of various systems including the potable water system, sanitary sewer system, and the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). 1,200 FIRE HYDRANTS DISMANTLED, SERVICED AND REBUILT 2,000+ REPAIRS AND PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE WORK ORDERS COMPLETED 22 BROKEN WATER MAINS REPAIRED THROUGHOUT WATER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM Installed a 1.2km water main on Hack Brown Road to improve the existing water distribution system and address long-term service and safety needs in the area. Purchased a new cargo trailer to transport equipment and allow crews to organize and move equipment more efficiently, helping improve overall productivity. Added a new mini excavator to enhance versatility and improve overall efficiency for the daily operations of underground utilities staff. • Cheam Leisure Centre: over $250,000 in upgrades to weight room, flooring, and functionality. • Chilliwack Landing Leisure Centre: replaced main roof and completed preventative maintenance work to support safer operation and long-term performance. • Townsend Park: new accessible washroom and amenity building. Completed Projects • Chilliwack Cultural Centre: replaced 112 theatre-style seats in the Rotary Hall Studio Theatre, improving accessibility and comfort supported by $50,000+ in community fundraising.
