Highlights
An open house was held to introduce
to the community the design for the
proposed Webster Skate Park.
Due to the discontinuation of the
Provincial government’s Spirit of
BC campaign the Chilliwack Spirit
Committee re-emerged as the Chilliwack
Active For life committee introducing
with the new branding title, a new logo.
The Chilliwack Active for Life committee
will continue to work with community
stakeholders to offer healthy living
activities such as Chilliwack Walks,
Move For Health and the Community
Sports Hero program.
In 2012 there was announcement
of a $250,000 dollar grant from
the Provincial government for the
construction of an outdoor recreation
facility in Chilliwack. The project
identified for this funding was the
conversion of Exhibition Field from a
natural grass facility to artificial turf.
The City of Chilliwack worked with
Heritage Park and Tourism Chilliwack
staff to celebrate the 25th Anniversary
of the Rick Hansen Man in Motion tour.
Chilliwack was chosen as one of the “End
of the Day” celebration locations which
was hosted at Heritage Park. Hundreds
of people came out to meet Rick Hansen
and witness some of the great local
talent on display throughout the event.
In May, Mayor Gaetz officiated over
the official opening of the Rosedale
Traditional Community School outdoor
recreation facilities which include sports
fields, tennis courts, a playground and a
basketball court.
The Webster Skate Park recognized
its official opening in September
with a ribbon cutting ceremony, and
demonstrations by a local trick riding
team.
The annual Terry Fox Run had over 275
participants and collected over $8000
dollars for the Terry Fox Foundation.
The City of Chilliwack partnered with
the Chilliwack Chiefs to host the BCJHL
Showcase. The successful event hosted
over 200 scouts in attendance to
evaluate players from Canadian and
American Universities, other Junior
Hockey leagues and the North American
professional hockey leagues.
