The B.C. government and the Better Business Bureau has warned
seniors to be aware of a phone scam that tricks grandparents into sending money
to individuals posing as grandchildren in an emergency. In recent years, at least two
seniors in Chilliwack and six from Surrey have been victimized by the "grandparent
scam".
