CITY OF CHILLIWACK 2025 Annual Report 52 53 2025 Annual Report CITY OF CHILLIWACK The following five leading calls for service accounted for 94% of total calls for service: 4,915 TOTAL CALLS FOR SERVICE 1,858 PUBLIC SERVICE INCIDENTS 1,098 ALARM RESPONSE 812 FIRE RESPONSE 517 MOTOR VEHICLE INCIDENTS 312 EMERGENCY MEDICAL AID Fire Prevention • Completed 1,551 fire inspections. • Educated over 4,800 residents. • Completed 80 food truck safety inspections. 2025 HIGHLIGHTS FIRE The Fire Department employs 46 full-time and 125 Paid on-Call (POC) firefighters and fire officers responding out of six strategically located firehalls. The Department is supported by four chief fire officers, four part-time administrative support staff, three fire inspectors, and two training officers. The Fire Department proudly serves residents and visitors of Chilliwack, covering an area of over 260 square kilometres. The Department delivers fire protection for various residential, commercial, agricultural, and industrial occupancies in rural, suburban and urban areas. Firefighters and fire officers provide emergency response to a diverse number of incidents such as fires, public service, public hazards, medical aid, motor vehicle incidents, fire alarm activations, burning complaints, rescues, and hazardous materials incidents. Community Events • Participated in various events including Fire Prevention Week, the Christmas Parade, Emergency Services Food Drive, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. • Firefighters Education Fund awarded ten post-secondary financial awards to high school graduates. • Firefighters Charitable Society awarded six scholarships to high school graduates. Emergency Management • Initiated emergency management consultation with local First Nations communities. • Completed renovations to the Emergency Operations Centre. • Conducted two Emergency Operations Centre tabletop exercises. • Onboarded five new Emergency Support Services (ESS) volunteers. Training • Successfully trained and graduated 11 new Paid on-Call firefighters and five new career firefighters. • Facilitated renewal of the department's core values and social contract. • Initiated construction of a four-storey fire "live burn" training structure. HUMAN RESOURCES The Human Resources Department consists of a team of professionals who support all employees working for the City of Chilliwack. It is Human Resources' role to ensure that best practices are always at the forefront ensuring staff are educated in those practices as regional and global trends change.
