Although called Lawn Bowling the sport
more closely resembles curling than
it does bowling, as the object of the
game is to place “biased” balls close to
a smaller ball referred to as a ”jack” or
“kitty”.
The game has been traced as far as the
time of Sir Walter Raleigh and was so
popular that it was banned in the kings
court for fear that it might jeopardise the
practise of archery.
Currently played in over forty countries
it’s gentle form but skilled execution
has recruited a following of those aged
nine to ninety, its social nature make it
an even more enjoyable and popular
sporting event.
In Chilliwack the Lawn Bowling Club
was founded in 1922 and is located
at the corner of Edward and Princess.
Members can play seven days per week
enjoying fresh air, exercise and meeting
other like-minded people and all for a low
membership fee of $30.00/month.
