We are opening in Chilliwack for this live & online challenge - focusing on weight loss, fitness and personal development. The community gets involved during voting with Chilliwack Progress. This is a non-profit organization. Applications to join start Dec. 1st, and the Challenge starts January 21, 2018.

Aged 15-29 and Seeking Employment? YMCA Youth Works employment program is starting in Chilliwack this Month! The YMCA Youth Works program helps youth gain the confidence, skills and experience to secure and maintain employment. This FREE job readiness program offers one-on-one support with experienced career advisors, job search and choices of training such as Super Host, Food Safe, Forklift, Serving it Right, First Aid, WHMIS, Driver’s training and others, as well as work placement supports. Other benefits of this program include food support and transportation assistance. The YMCA is actively recruiting for our next intake and hosting Information Sessions at the Chilliwack YMCA Youth Works location at #308-46167 Yale Rd. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.

PRESS RELEASE: 171206 – Patricia Peters & Kathleen Menges – “Kindred Spirits” – A Fusion in Wax Patricia Peters and Kathleen Menges are teaming up again to share their talents and art featuring works uniquely created with the ancient medium of wax. Both artists have worked in the luscious and temperamental encaustic medium. Hot wax requires heat as a solvent to move paint around and fuse the layers together. Encaustic painting can have a spectacular transparent polish or depth to the product, through to a textural relief. This exhibition showcases the evolution of their work in wax processes from encaustic to that of oil and cold wax. This latter medium looks like paste and does not require heat but rather uses mineral spirits as a solvent. This typically gives a matte finish which can vary from a silky smooth texture to an organic, hand-rubbed polish. With cold wax medium brushes are replaced by palette knives, silicon blades, brayers, squeegees, and rollers, to name only a few tools of the craftwork. In this exhibition, pigments and/or oil paint, plus cold wax medium have been thoughtfully layered to create dynamic and sometimes mysterious images. Kathleen and Patricia speak a similar language because of the common use of tools, surfaces, and product but the imagery and handling of their paint is dramatically different and artistically unique. After viewing their work one can easily determine who is Ying and who is Yang. One artist exhibits energy and colorful variety while the other is more meditative, serene, and peaceful. Their combined work is diverse and brings to light the subtleties, grace, and complexities of the highly unusual medium of oil and cold wax. Both artists will be available January 13, 2018, from 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm to respond to comments and questions during the opening reception at the O’Conner Gallery. On January 20, from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm, they will be hosting a hands-on workshop.

The Ann Davis Transition Society, in partnership with the University of the Fraser Valley, invites you to save the date for a timely conversation about women’s issues and practical tools for community organizing in the Fraser Valley. We will meet at 11:00 a.m. and march from the Ann Davis Transition Society office at 9046 Young Rd. to Chilliwack City Hall at 8550 Young Rd. Speakers will include Joanne Gutierrez-Hugh (Xwiyolemot), former Tribal Chief with Stó:lō Tribal Council; Jackie Hogan, UFV’s acting president; and Patti MacAhonic, Ann Davis Transition Society executive director. You are invited to an open, public gathering of multi-faith readings and prayers in a devotional atmosphere followed by time to explore the relationship between various religions with members from different faith communities in Chilliwack. This event is in honor of World Religion Day which was described by "Baha'i Canada" (2004) as "designated to recognize the common elements in all religions and to foster interfaith connections in the various communities. Its message is that mankind is one and that the advancement of our civilization depends on the unity and harmony of the peoples of the world." After the formal program there will be lots of time to enjoy refreshments with new found friends.

The Fraser Valley Distillery Festival is a tasting event, featuring some of the best Craft and Micro Distilleries in BC. Featuring craft Vodkas, Gins, Single Malt Whiskeys, Fruit Liqueurs, flavoured Liqueurs and more. All of the distilleries are BC owned and operated, and make small batch spirits from locally sourced ingredients. The event will take place on Friday, January 26, 2018 from 7:00-10:00pm at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre, 9201 Corbould St, Chilliwack BC. Event is 19+ only, and ticket holders must provide proof of age to enter. Tickets on sale at The Centre Box Office at 604-391-SHOW (7469) Admission includes samples, food, entertainment and more. You can sample any of the available drinks, and even purchase your favourites in our liquor store. The event is a fundraiser for the Chilliwack Academy of Music. The Academy is a non-profit music school, a member of the BC Association of Community Music Schools, and a registered charitable organization. All of the proceeds of the event go to raise funds to support music education in your community.

11 am – 4 pm. The Silver Surfers Project, from Chilliwack Learning Society, offers one-on-one shared iPad experiences with trained volunteers. You’ll learn how to set-up a new device, surf the internet, use email, take pictures, understand the apps , and much more. Please come prepared with passwords, passcodes and apple ID’s.
