ARTISTS CHOICE For our last show of 2016, the CVAA group show will be called Artists Choice. We have chosen a title, instead of a theme. This gives the artists a much freer choice, and the ability to display something already painted, carved, sculpted, or photographed. We do not have to begin trying to bring to life somebody else’s idea, so now we can bring out something we have already created.. We do not mean something hidden away in an attic, gathering dust, but a piece of art for which we had a new, perhaps exciting idea, , and to which we gave life, without being bound by a theme which might not necessarily fit in with our own talent, or choice of medium. .Nothing shown previously in one of our shows, but new, and fresh maybe a change from our usual style? A different journey, following a different type of visual art, pushing the boundaries? All things are possible with freedom!

Wednesday, Jan 4, 2 pm – 3 pm Join the Friends of the Chilliwack Libraries Society on the first Wednesday of every month. This volunteer organization supports the library through advocacy, fundraising and assistance with various projects and programs. New friends are always welcome!

Wednesdays, Jan 4, Jan 18, Feb 1, Feb 15, Mar 1, Mar 15, 7 pm – 8:30 pm The Chilliwack Uke Club will be hosting free, drop in jam sessions at the Chilliwack Library! Whether you’re a beginner or seasoned expert, no matter your age, if you have interest learning the ukulele you’re welcome here! Bring your own ukulele from home, borrow one of the library’s Uke 'n Play Ukulele Kits, or use one provided by the club. This program is in partnership with the Chilliwack Academy of Music. While registration is not required for this free program, space is limited. Please arrive early to avoid disappointment.

3:30 – 4:30 (please register at the desk the day of the event) ove LEGO? Come play, create, and experiment. We have the LEGO, you bring your imagination! LEGO club is a fun afterschool program for kids so come on in and join us. Arrive early to avoid disappointment.

“Duet”- a synergy of artwork by Michaela Stefan and woodturnings by Michael Hamilton–Clark. Opening hours, 12 noon to 5 pm Wed. thru Sat. Free

Michaela Stefan. , Michaela became a ballet dancer performing leading roles in international repertoires. She developed an interest in painting as another form of expression. Michael Hamilton-Clark. Is a self-taught local wood-turner and retired civil engineer who uses mostly locally available woods from felled trees, branch trimmings and mill offcuts.

January 13 to February 13, 2017 at the Chilliwack Community Arts Council Art Room Gallery Artist Meet & Greet on Friday, January 13, 2017 from 6 – 8 p.m. *Free to attend! The Chilliwack Community Arts Council ecstatically presents its first gallery exhibition of 2017, In Your Face, featuring painter Shannon Thiesen. Running January 13 to February 13, this striking solo exhibition explores the range of emotions, personalities, and stories that our faces evoke through portraiture. Then the audience votes for their favourite, and our panel of judges selects additional speakers to perform a full TEDx talk on April 14, 2018 at TEDxChilliwack. 10:30 am – 12 pm Share ideas, learn new tips and tricks, solve research roadblocks, and learn the history of the area and era you are researching. The Genealogy Group welcomes new members.

2 pm – 3:30 pm We supply the materials, tweens & teens can get those creative muscles working. Ages 9-14 Snacks and maybe even pizza will be provided!

11 am – 1:30 pm Put your problem solving skills to the test at our puzzle contest! Compete in teams of 4 (come as a team or come alone and we will create a team) and be the first to finish a 500 piece puzzle. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place! Light refreshments will be provided. Register early to ensure your spot!

This Free Yoga Class in Chilliwack, has a different teacher every week and is available to all levels. At Studio B Yoga we encourage a mindful and balanced lifestyle everyday and believe yoga should be available to anyone. You are welcome to join only this free class every Saturday or experience a variety of classes. Gently flow through your practice while working on poses. This class accommodates a wide range of experience levels from beginner to students that have practiced for a long period of time. The class works on a balance between strength and flexibility while building endurance and improving your breathing and posture. We have all the mats and props you may need for the class. We ask that you arrive 10-15 minutes early to sign a waiver it is your first class, and get settled. This workshop, presented by the Alzheimer’s Society of BC, encourages participants to actively engage in protecting and maintaining their brain. Learn strategies and set goals for improving the health of your mind, body and spirit. Anyone interested in brain health is welcome to attend. Wednesdays, Jan 25 – Apr 26, 10:30 am - 11 am Making language fun! Start early with babytime. Help your baby develop speech and language skills – enjoy bouncing, singing and rhyming with stories. Babytime is a fun, social bonding activity for babies AND caregivers. No registration required.

It is a whole New Year and time for turning a new leaf. In Reto-Computing, that means making a new computer act like an old one. That can include DOS/Windows based emulation (Hercules or SIMH), a new circuit board full of old chips (Elf 2K, FPGA), or all new hardware that looks or works like an old computer (Kim-Uno, PiDP-8). Whatever you have that is new to you, bring it out to be enjoyed by all our members.

Thursdays, January 26 -April 27, 10:30 am – 11 am Calling all Toddlers- if you’re a rambunctious tot from aprox. 18 months through 3 years (who is just a little too active for babytime) you’re welcome here! Bringing energy and fun to bounces, rhymes and songs we build coordination and social skills while building literacy and play!

10:30 am – 11 am Join us for a celebration of Family Literacy at our Special Storytime- there will be puppets and books and songs , oh my! We’ve also invited a super surprise reader!

Come paint, collage, or create another craft of your own and join in on our group "improv" painting. Then, participate in and/or enjoy a casual open mic (all art forms welcome)! Art supplies, a light snack, and a hot drink (coffee, tea, hot chocolate, or, yes, espresso) are included. This event is designed to build community and allow participants to express themselves, all in a casual environment! Admission is a suggested donation of $8 at the door. If the cost is a concern, don't worry about it - no one will be turned away. If you would like to perform in the open mic, you can let us know ahead of time so we'll know who to expect - or just show up! An acoustic guitar and piano will be available for use. Performers get in for free!

The Fraser Valley Distillery Festival is a tasting event, featuring some of the best Craft and Micro Distilleries in BC. Featuring craft Vodkas, Gins, Single Malt Whiskeys, Fruit Liqueurs, flavoured Liqueurs and more. All of the distilleries are BC owned and operated, and make small batch spirits from locally sourced ingredients. This event is a fundraiser to help support high quality music development in the community. Event is 19+ only, and ticket holders must provide proof of age to enter.
