City of Chilliwack to Launch Recycling Star Program | May 27, 2025 |
Chilliwack, BC: The City of Chilliwack is launching a new Curbside Recycling Star Program to celebrate residents who are recycling superstars. The program encourages residents on the City’s Curbside Collection program to sort their recycling perfectly in order to be entered to win a monthly draw for a gift card. From June to December, City staff and co-op students will conduct curbside recycling audits to ensure non-compliant materials are not placed in the blue bin. If your recycling has only compliant materials, a gold star sticker will be placed on your container with instructions for entering the prize draw. If your recycling is nearly perfect, with only one type of non-compliant item(s), you will receive a blue star sticker letting you know what item(s) need to be removed from your recycling bin. Too much contamination in recycling lowers the potential for materials to be recycled into high-quality products. Use the City’s Waste Wizard program to determine what goes in your recycling bin. Most items can also be recycled at the local depots. “It’s important to stay diligent with our recycling practices to keep our community as clean as possible and divert as much material as possible from the landfill,” said Mayor Ken Popove. “I hope to see many gold star stickers around Chilliwack neighbourhoods this summer.” For more information on the program, visit Chilliwack.com/RecyclingStar. |
