Community Information Meeting on Homelessness November 21, 2016

On Wednesday, November 30, 2016, the City of Chilliwack, will host an information meeting with our MLAs, MP, Fraser Health, the RCMP and the Chilliwack School District to share what is being done to address homelessness in our community. Non-perishable food items will be accepted for the Food Bank.

Homelessness is becoming more visible and all levels of government are taking steps within their areas of authority to help bring positive changes to Chilliwack. On November 30 members of the community will hear presentations from the federal government, the provincial government, Fraser Health, the City of Chilliwack, the RCMP and the Chilliwack School District that address this concern.

Local service providers will also participate in the community information meeting, providing information about their programs and services and ways the community can help support that good work.

The panel will answer written questions and residents are encouraged to submit questions prior to the event. Questions can be submitted via email to [email protected] or in person at City Hall (8550 Young Road).

“Just like other communities in the Lower Mainland, and across Canada, Chilliwack has seen a recent sudden increase in homelessness. When we created our Homelessness Action Plan earlier this year, we acknowledged that this is not something that can be addressed by just one level of government. We all need to work together to effect positive change for our community,” said Mayor Sharon Gaetz.

“We hope residents will join us, our MLAs, MP, Fraser Health, the RCMP and the Chilliwack School District as we share what is being done to address homelessness in our community,” said Mayor Gaetz.
