Notice of Work in the Fairfield Island Area - Groundwater Feasibility Study
The City has retained Hatfield Consultants LLP (Hatfield) to conduct a groundwater feasibility study in the Fairfield Island area. While the City’s municipal wells provide more than enough drinking water for the community, this study will help determine if there are other locations where municipal wells could be added to diversify and improve the resilience of our water supply sources for domestic and agricultural processing purposes.
Locations
Borehole drilling will take place mostly on City-owned properties, near Ballam Road, Brinx Road, and McGrath Road as well as other select locations. If you see a crew working, please give them space to work and follow any posted signage.
Impact to Residents
Work will take place between the hours of 7 am and 7 pm from Monday to Friday. While the locations are in mostly rural areas, there may be some noise or dust associated with the work. Additionally, Hatfield may be contacting residents in the immediate area to inquire about private wells and notify them of drilling activities.
Schedule
Work is anticipated to begin the week of August 3, 2026. Additional information about scheduled work will be posted here as it is confirmed. The field investigation will be completed by the end of 2026.
About the Project
This field-based investigation will involve a water-well survey of existing wells, the drilling and installation of three monitoring wells, and the analysis of soil cores, followed by a final report of the findings. Additional activities may be completed based on the findings of the field investigation.
Funding Acknowledgement
The City of Chilliwack gratefully acknowledges the financial support of the Province of British Columbia through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food.
