Apply for Mobile Food Vending

Although the City of Chilliwack has conducted a competitive selection process to assign vendors to designated City-approved locations, other vendors may still be permitted to operate food trucks at events held on City property. Assigned vendors will retain priority access to their designated locations during such events. The City encourages assigned vendors to collaborate with event organizers in a mutually supportive manner.
Whether operating as a sole vendor or participating in a special event, all vendors must comply fully with all applicable City regulations and operational requirements.
To receive approval to operate your food truck at City-hosted events, the following documents must be submitted:
Health Permit
Provide a copy of your mobile food vending unit’s Permit to Operate from any one of the 5 BC Health Authorities (i.e. Fraser Health Authority, Vancouver Coastal Health, etc.)
Food Safe Certificate
Each food holder must have a valid Food Safe Certificate.
Fire Safety Inspection
The Chilliwack Fire Department must inspect your unit. The approval is good for the calendar year. Please contact the Fire Department at 604-792-8713 or [email protected] to schedule an appointment for an inspection.
Alternatively, they will accept an approved inspection done by any municipality that is participating in the Greater Vancouver Fire Chiefs Association’s Mobile Food Vendor Inspection Program. This approval must be for the current calendar year.
Electrical Permit
Electrical equipment in your truck must display a mark or label from a certification agency accredited by the Standards Council of Canada or an approval label issued by Technical Safety BC. See the Approved Certification Marks bulletin for accepted approval marks or labels.
Gas Approval Requirements
Review the Equipment Gas Requirements to ensure your food truck meets the Technical Safety BC's gas requirements.
Insurance Coverage
Public liability insurance coverage in the amount of a minimum $5,000,000 is required. The policy must name the City of Chilliwack as an additional insured.
Must have proof of a valid ICBC insurance for food truck/tow vehicle/cart/trailer.

Special Events
For a one-time siting or at a special event, each food truck will be charged $25, without utilities, which will be applied to the host’s contract as they will be benefitting from the service. If City utilities are required there will be an additional charge of $10 per hour of use. It is up to the event host to ensure that the City is informed about the food truck on site and has the requirements to operate.
Fees
For long term placement of food trucks requiring utilities to offer their service there will be a $100 charge per month and for a six-month minimum allocation.
For long term placement of food trucks not requiring utilities to offer their service there will be a $35 charge per month and for a six-month minimum allocation.
