Auxiliary Police Program

The Chilliwack RCMP Auxiliary Program, under the direction of the RCMP, is an active volunteer crime prevention initiative.  The primary purpose of this program is to provide Auxiliaries with opportunities where they can participate in community policing activities to gain valuable knowledge and expertise in law enforcement.  The program is an important component in the RCMP's local policing strategy in combating target based crime throughout the city.

Auxiliary Constables are unpaid community citizens who volunteer and receive specialized training to augment active police efforts.  Auxiliarys are required to commit a minimum 160 hours per year.  Policing functions Auxiliaries participate in:

  • Ride-alongs
  • Foot patrols
  • Traffic control
  • Community training sessions
  • School talks
  • Community events (Chilliwack Flight Fest, Canada Day, Party in the Park, etc.)

The Auxiliary Program currently has 31 auxiliary members who have dedicated more than 4,759 volunteer hours to public safety in the Upper Fraser Valley every year.

The Auxiliary Program has evolved to strategically focus on specific issues that have been identified by the community. One such area is the downtown core with Auxiliary volunteers having devoted more than 200 hours of foot patrols throughout the downtown core.  Significant hours are also spent at city functions, local events, schools and community facilities.

New troops graduate every year from the program.  If you would like to know more, please call the local policing office at 604.792.4611 or email
