Crystal Methamphetamine Task Force

In May 2006, the City of Chilliwack received a grant in the amount of $10,000 from the Province of BC's "Communities Responding to Methamphetamine" grant funding program. A Methamphetamine Task Force was struck consisting of members of the Public Safety Advisory Committee; Darryl Plecas of the University College of the Fraser Valley; Taryn Dixon representing the Chilliwack School District; Grant Roberge representing the Fraser Valley Health Region; and, Corporal Sharon Cooke from the RCMP.

The Committee decided to use the funds to commission a report to be prepared by the Centre for Criminal Justice Research at the University College of the Fraser Valley, which would catalogue effective strategies for dealing with methamphetamines as used by communities throughout North America and Western Europe.

The report is attached with a link below or a copy can be obtained by calling Corporate Services at 604-793-2986.

Additional information on addiction services is available from the Fraser Health Mental Health and Addiction Services webpage.

Fraser Health has also published a useful document entitled "A Community Guide: Strategies and Interventions for Dealing with Crystal Methamphetamine and Other Emerging Drug Trends" which can be obtained from their website:
