All Seniors are invited to drop by between 10:00am and 12:00pm for a free cup of coffee or tea. Come meet other seniors. Come with any unanswered questions you may have about health or community resources that you may have. We look forward to seeing you!

Carol Todd - mother of Amanda Todd amandatoddlegacy.org and Chris Cassamassa - "Bully Proof Fitness" author speak about bullying and how to avoid it. Event is for kids ages 7-13, adults, teachers and parents.

Chris Cassamassa and Carol Todd both have a call to action to help stop bullying. Chris was Scorpion on Mortal Combat and doubled for Batman. Carol advocates a call to action for kids to become more active with fitness, family and community.

People across the province are getting together take part in Parkinson SuperWalk, the single most important provincial and national awareness and fundraising event for Parkinson Society British Columbia (PSBC)! Join your community at The Landing Sports Centre in Chilliwack on Saturday, September 8th, 2018 to support people living with Parkinson’s and their loved ones in your community. The Fung Loy Kok Taoist Tai Chi Club will do a short demonstration as well as talk about the benefits of Tai Chi such as helping to reduce and relieve stress, anxiety and pain. Anne Marie Evers is an Affirmation Life Coach, Teacher, Radio/Internet Talk Show Host. She has numerous e-books and books in print including Wake Up and Live the Life you Love in Spirit with co-authors Dr Deepak Chopra, Dr Wayne Dyer and others. Anne Marie facilitates Affirmation programs and will be presenting on the benefits of affirmations.

6 pm – 8 pm This workshop is to prepare you with the Resume and Cover Letter writing strategies that will update your resume and deliver your Resume with impact. You will learn how to format your document to look it’s best, find the right style for your situation, and learn what is in and what is out in today’s resumes. People who benefit the most from this workshop are those who have not updated their resume in the last 5 years, who have gaps in their work history, who are changing careers or who have difficulty marketing themselves. This program is in partnership with Chilliwack Community Services and Work BC.

Join us for our fourth annual UFV Alumni Open golf tournament. Bringing together community leaders, businesses, UFV alumni, students and friends, this is a signature annual event for UFV supporters. If you’re not a golfer, you’re welcome to join us for the apres golf reception dinner following the tournament. All proceeds will be contributed to the Alumni Changing Lives Bursary Endowment, helping UFV students. Sponsorship opportunities available. Seniors with or without a hearing loss, their families, friends, and support networks are invited to attend our upcoming “Seniors Talk About Hearing Loss” session. This is an opportunity for individuals to discuss hearing loss and related topics while learning from the experiences of peers. The session will run from 9:45am-11:45am and focus on the following two topics: “Hearing Accessibility and Technology” by Maggie Dodd & “Aging, Illness, and Hearing Loss” by Dr. Lorne Hanson. This is a free event; light refreshments will be provided.

We are a non-profit organization working with hard of hearing individuals and their support networks to decrease isolation and remove barriers.

10:30 am – 11:30 am Kick off our first Storytime for the Fall with a special storytime on Dinosaurs! We’ll celebrate Science Week by learning about Dinosaurs and making our own dinosaur skeleton craft. Suitable for Children under 5 with adult supervision.

3 pm - 4:30 pm Acquaint yourself with FVRLs latest collection item. Topics covered will include: • Basic use and care • Observation tricks • Popular apps used for night viewing

2 pm – 3:30 pm Come to the library to meet Sphero SPRK+, a small robotic ball that you control with a smartphone or tablet. Make it roll around, change colours or run a program that you create yourself.

2:30 pm – 4 pm Twinkle, twinkle little star how I wonder what you are? Come to our Science Week little Astronomers Bootcamp where you will get to use a real telescope, learn about constellations, the moon and the planets. The program will include crafts, interactive activities and the new FVRL Telescopes available for loan from the FVRL Playground. Suitable for children aged 6-12.

You will learn how to deal with difficult questions, how to talk well about your skills and experience and how to take advantage of the “Tell me about yourself” question. This workshop will help you feel like you are in the driver seat at your next interview. This program is in partnership with Chilliwack Community Services and Work BC.

7 pm – 8 pm You can now borrow telescopes from FVRL and we're celebrating! Learn more about your universe through discussions with local astronomers. Our visiting expert, Christa van Laerhoven, will bring to light some of the wonders of the night sky. Dr. Christa van Laerhoven is an astrophysicist at the University of British Columbia who grew up in the Fraser Valley (Agassiz). She studies multi-planet extra-solar systems. She is a talented and engaging speaker, who has given talks to both academic and community audiences, having visited many libraries and schools. She is an OSIRIS-REx Ambassador and a panelist on reddit.com's AskScience.

2 pm – 3 pm Gross out Science time just in time for Science Literacy Week! Kids will get the opportunity to use common household ingredients to create their own slime. Skills used will include reading recipes, measuring, mixing colors and using trial and error to make a colorful, slimy substance that they can bring home. Registration required, for children grades K-6.

Monday, September 24th, join us for MUSICAL BINGO! Played like regular BINGO but using music and entertainment trivia instead. This event was so much fun the first time, we’ve been asked to do it again! 7:00-10:00 pm at the Mount Cheam Lions’ Hall. Tickets are $15.00 and available at our office.

Chilliwack Restorative Justice and Youth Advocacy Association (CRJYAA) has partnered with Studio B Yoga & More Inc. to offer this FREE youth program for youths of all genders currently enrolled in grades 8 – 10 (for the 2018/2019 school year). In this program we will focus on our combined values; Balance, Community, Honesty, Integrity, Lifestyle and Learning. Be Chill is a FREE youth program that incorporates the foundations and values of Yoga and Restorative Justice with everyday life skills. Full of educational workshops and fun activities that are designed to engage, empower, and connect Chilliwack youth with each other and within their community. The Chilliwack Youth Health Centre and the YMCA are pleased to introduce the Y Mind Mindfulness Group. This free group is for people aged 18-30 who experience anxiety. The group shares mindfulness and stress-management techniques that can help us deal with anxiety and live our best lives. Interested?
