Art & Sculpture Exhibition with Diane Mackenzie artist, and Michael Ray, Sculptor Wed. through Sat, 12 noon to 5 Pm

Diane Mackenzie’s work reflects her rural roots and her love of nature, in clean, clear colours, masterful techniques,and good design and composition. Michael Ray Michael’s sculptures are figurative in wood, stone and metal. Most of the work is intended to be easily recognizable by the viewer. ortable with the work, and then invite them to explore and experience the shapes and forms.

Reading Buddies is a program that pairs high school students and adult volunteers with kids in Grades 1 to 4 who need extra help. Sign up begins in September, and we will continue matching up buddies until spring 2017. To learn more, visit the Chilliwack, Sardis or Yarrow Library.

The Chilliwack Community Band begins a new season with a new conductor! If you are looking for more playing opportunities, or a brand new band, bring your instrument along to our first rehearsal on September 8! Musicians should have previous playing experience.

The Bicycle Trek is a fundraiser where participants will ride from South Surrey to Cultus Lake and back in support of the BC Lung Association's fight against lung disease. There are 2 ride options for participants, a 1-day, 50km ride and a 2-day, 200km option. Proceeds from this event will be used to fund lung health research, various clean air campaigns, and provides patient education and support.

World Suicide Prevention Day is held each year on September 10. We have planned a series of activities for Saturday, September 10, 2016 from 11AM - 3PM. A detailed agenda will be posted. This is your opportunity to gather to celebrate all the good and bad in life with activities to foster resillience

Local charity group Chilliwack For Lorraine is requesting your help. They have recently come together to support a local Chilliwack woman battling cancer who desperately needs our community’s support. With a lofty goal of $30,000 needed for medical treatment Chilliwack For Lorraine has organized ways you can help. 10:30 am – 12 pm Would you like to improve your skills using genealogy software such as Ancestry Library Edition? Share ideas, learn new tips and tricks, solve research roadblocks, and learn the history of the area and era you are researching. The Sardis Library Genealogy Group welcomes new members. Bring your laptop, or use the computers at the library to connect to Ancestry Library Edition after the meeting. If you are looking for something new and interesting to do in September, make sure you head over to the O’Connor Group gallery for two unique exhibits in one. “Dual Contrast” brings together two avant-gard and multimedia shows in one. On one side of the gallery you will find artist Bill Edmond’s “People & Places”, intriguing portraits, inspired by photographs collected over anonymous social media chats, and created with unorthodox paint mediums. On the other side of the gallery, “Hyper-Reality” 3D photography will wow you with depth, color and layers, giving you the opportunity to lose yourself in this glass-less 3D experience. Don’t miss this opportunity, September 15 to October 22nd, or even better, come and meet the artist at the reception on September 17th, 6 to 9pm for an evening of inspiration, dialogue, food and entertainment.

Parkinson SuperWalk is the single most important provincial and national awareness and fundraising event for Parkinson Society British Columbia (PSBC). Over 20 communities across the province organize walks during the weekend of September 10th – 11th, and 17th while raising money for research and support services through individual pledges and corporate sponsorships. This year, our goal is to attract over 2,400 walkers and raise at least $440,000 in BC. Proceeds from SuperWalk will enable the Society to invest in research and continue to provide essential programs and services to the 13,300 individuals and their families who live with Parkinson’s in BC.

Join us for the annual Terry Fox Run on Sunday, September 18 as we seek to raise funds for the life-saving cancer research supported by The Terry Fox Foundation. Learn and share knowledge about the history of computing machines, retro computing, lilliputian, electronic technology and other topics. The Chilliwack Retro-Computing Club is a non-profit association of computer technology enthusiasts who meet once a month at 7pm in the Sardis Library.

You are encouraged to bring small, easy to carry computers and electronic devices to demonstrate to other attendees. Club technicians will inspect your equipment for safety before you connect to power outlets.

The Marriage Course which offers tools to any married couple, whether they have a strong marriage or are struggling, in order to help build a strong, healthy and lasting relationship that lasts a lifetime. What holds us back from experiencing these benefits? Join local travel consultant Bruce Bennewith as he discusses travel “comfort zones” and examines ways of overcoming the obstacles preventing us from enjoying that “trip of a lifetime”.

Free for permanent residents, this 12 week program teaches how to stay fit and healthy. while meeting new friends and practicing English. Program is Fridays, 12:30-3:30.

3 pm – 6 pm Chilliwack Heritage Society will be demonstrating the art of wool spinning at the Sardis Library. Kids can also make buttons on an old fashioned button spinner to take home.
