You are invited to attend “Light & Shadow Photographic Exhibition”. Where: The Art Gallery, Chilliwack Cultural Center. When: April 2 to May 9, 2015, Noon to 5pm, Wednesday through Saturday. Meet the Artists Reception: Saturday, April 11; 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Light & Shadow is a group photographic exhibition featuring the works of Mary Askey, Linda Brown, Mary Chalmers Main, Zidonja Ganert, Delphine Gornall, Fred Gornall, Michael Hamilton-Clark, Jenna Hauck, Vickie Legere and Pat Tessier. The exhibition illustrates that the moments we capture and the stories we tell with our images are all contingent on the quality and nature of the light on our subject. Light creates mood: who’s spirits haven’t been lifted by a magnificent sunrise or sunset? Light reflects back on windows and water. Light casts shadows to create drama or a moment of whimsy. As photographic artists the camera is the tool we use to share the world as we see it! We look forward to seeing you there!

Opening hours are from 12 noon to 5 pm, Wednesday through Saturday. Admission is free.

This volunteer organization supports the library through advocacy, fundraising and assistance with various projects and programs. This class is 100% free and available to everyone. We provide the space, teacher, mats and props. Studio B aspires to encourage community members to embrace a balanced and mindful lifestyle. Gently flow through your practice while working on poses. This class accommodates a wide range of experience levels from beginner to students that have practiced for a long period of time. The class works on a balance between strength and flexibility while building endurance and improving your breathing and posture.

This class is held every Saturday from 12-1 pm with a rotating teacher. Participants may create a profile and register online. Please arrive 10-15 minutes early.

The Art of Book Folding. Join artist Steph Brubaker in this creative and fun class where you will be re-using an old book and creating a piece of art. Learn the basics of book folding and creating a heart in a book. Ages: 13 - Adult. Sat. Sept. 12, 10 am - 12 pm. Cost $25. *Members save 10%.

7:00pm-8:30pm The Chilliwack Library is proud to present legendary fiction writer, W.P. “Bill” Kinsella, for the launch of his new book: “The Essential W.P. Kinsella”. This retrospective collection, including four stories that were previously uncollected, represents Kinsella’s finest work. Alongside the “real” story of the 1951 Giants and the afterlife of Roberto Clemente, are the legends of a pirated radio station and a hockey game rigged by tribal magic. He will be reading from his new work and copies of the book will be available for purchase. W. P. “Bill” Kinsella is best known for his award-winning novel Shoeless Joe, which took on a new life as the movie Field of Dreams. 6:00pm - 7:00pm. All teenagers in Chilliwack are invited to join the Chilliwack Libraries TAG. Help organize, run and promote teen library programs. Act as library ambassadors. Discuss and review music, books, movies and websites. Eat snacks and have fun. Volunteer hours are granted for all TAG activities and often qualify as part of a student’s graduation portfolio. Adult Open Studio: These are non-instructional sessions that allow you to use our studio to practice on the wheel, handbuilding, or to finish class work. Clay to be purchased separately through The Centre Box Office. Only work produced at The Chilliwack Cultural Centre from clay purchased here can be fired in our kilns. These sessions are not designed to accommodate production potters but to allow students to independently develop their skills. Drop-in work will be glazed during a scheduled drop-in session.

Adult Class: The ability to draw the human figure is an essential art form and vital to those who wish to continue to develop their observational drawing skills. People work independently and at their own level of experience. While no formal instruction is provided, support and encouragement is given. A variety of male and female models with different body shapes and ages are booked for the open studio.
