You are invited to attend “Light & Shadow Photographic Exhibition”. Where: The Art Gallery, Chilliwack Cultural Center. When: April 2 to May 9, 2015, Noon to 5pm, Wednesday through Saturday. Meet the Artists Reception: Saturday, April 11; 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Light & Shadow is a group photographic exhibition featuring the works of Mary Askey, Linda Brown, Mary Chalmers Main, Zidonja Ganert, Delphine Gornall, Fred Gornall, Michael Hamilton-Clark, Jenna Hauck, Vickie Legere and Pat Tessier. The exhibition illustrates that the moments we capture and the stories we tell with our images are all contingent on the quality and nature of the light on our subject. Light creates mood: who’s spirits haven’t been lifted by a magnificent sunrise or sunset? Light reflects back on windows and water. Light casts shadows to create drama or a moment of whimsy. As photographic artists the camera is the tool we use to share the world as we see it! We look forward to seeing you there!

Opening hours are from 12 noon to 5 pm, Wednesday through Saturday. Admission is free.

Adults, 6:30 - 7:30 pm. $68. We are excited to welcome back Ruby Rodier as our Pilates and Body Sculpting instructor. Join Ruby in various exercises to reshape the entire body. All fitness levels welcomed!

Ages 4-6 years. 4:15 - 5:00 pm. $50. For children who love to help in the kitchen. Each child will complete a “make and take” item to share with Mom and Dad. This class focuses on cooking plus incorporates other hands on projects and games. Each “Tiny Chef” will bring home a homemade recipe book of their creations.

Wednesdays, 10:00 am - 2:30 pm. Bring your quilting projects, sewing machine, and hand work for a day of quilting in the comforts of the library. This group meets weekly to quilt and socialize. Please note that this is a non-instructional drop-in group. Space is limited so please bring hand work in case the tables are occupied. Don't forget to bring your lunch and coffee mug!

Art Exhibition! Opening on May 29, the collection feature the works of Five women that used a variety of mixed media of paints, pastels, inks, papers and found materials to create their collage art. Exhibiting artists that make up the Five are Christine Newsome, Janet Carroll, Vicky Ray, Dianne Hultgren and Betty Meiszner. Come join us in an evening full of artsy fun with friends as we create and sample wine. Local artist, Pat Gerlach, will lead you step by step through the process of unleashing your inner Van Gogh. Painting in Soft Pastels, Saturday, June 6, 10 am - 12 pm. Ages 13 - Adult. In this creative and fun class artist Pat Gerlach will offer the basic knowledge needed to create realistic pastel painting of a fox. Along with some dry pastel basics, we will focus on the rendering of specific textures like fur and discussing things like drawing realistic eyes, choosing and layering colours, as well as touching on some aspects of animal anatomy. Every skill level welcome. Cost: $25.

Megathon is a Fundraising experience that challenges people to sign up to a fitness challenge and become heroes, inspiring change and making pledges to make 1000 kids healthy and active! Get “Saucy” with Mike, pt. 2 – Bechamel Sauce. Tuesday, June 16, 6:30 - 8:30 pm. Ages 13 - Adult. In this five part monthly series Red Seal Chef Mike Slanzi will demonstrate the basic “mother” sauces and the dishes that they complement. For the second class in the series we explore the Bechamel mother to create such delicious sauces as Alfredo, Mornay, Cheese and Soubise. Then Chef Mike will create the meals they go with and you get to enjoy a taste of each; Bechamel Sauce topped Moussaka, Alfredo, Mornay and Cheese Fettuccine and creamy Chicken Soubise. Cost: $35.

Questions and Answers for those supporting ageing parents. As an organization that provides resource information for seniors, the Seniors’ Resources Society is often asked about community supports and resources, housing options as one transitions through life, and the processes involved should one need support at home. Laura Clarke, Geriatric Nurse Clinician, Fraser Health and Coletta Holmes from the Seniors’ Resources Society will share their lived experience in supporting older adults as well as the processes and systems involved. Specific issues that will be addressed include: the work of the Chilliwack Primary Care Seniors Clinic, Housing Options: Supportive Housing, Assisted Living, and Continuing Care, Community Resources: Programs and Services available through local agencies, businesses and support groups, and in home support. Secondary Character Musical Theatre Society's annual Confectioner's Cabaret brings together talented performers from around the Fraser Valley, with an unmatched selection of mouthwatering home made desserts. There also is a silent auction with a variety of items for all interests, and the whole event supports our summer of theatre. As always, the Cabaret will feature highlights from this year's season - including Oklahoma! and The Last Five Years - along with many other musical delights featuring the works of Rodgers & Hammerstein and Jason Robert Brown. Tickets are $20 or $50 for a family.
