Description:

Combining delicious homemade treats and a worthy cause, this year’s 4th Annual Pie Day is already generating buzz in the community and we invite you to join in on the mouth-watering goodness! Travelers and locals alike have enjoyed the traditional menu and affordable prices at the Airport Coffee Shop for decades. On June 24th, 2014 their pies just may be a little less of a “guilty” pleasure, as 100% of all pie sales will be donated directly to the Terry Fox Foundation. The Terry Fox Foundation differs from other charities in that 84 cents of every dollar raised is donated directly to cancer research. This initiative has a particularly special place in our hearts, as it is conducted in memory of Terry’s mother, Betty Fox, who passed away in June 2011. The coffee shop owners, The Good sisters, have been involved with the Terry Fox Foundation for years and have taught us that every community no matter how big or how small can make a huge impact, just as Terry learned when a small town of 10,000 people raised over $10,000. Thanks to Judi, Tracey and Jacqueline, and their amazing staff, there has been an overwhelming response from the community of Chilliwack and beyond. Last year’s event generated over $5400 with a total of 336 slices and 216 whole pies sold, all in Betty’s name. There are over 30 types of pie to choose from with a variety of options for purchase: whether a slice or a whole pie, to eat on the spot or order for future pickup at any other point during the year. Check out their menu online, or visit in person at 46244 Airport Road, Chilliwack B.C. “If you’ve given a dollar, you are part of the Marathon of Hope.” The Fox family taught us that every contribution matters. Help us continue Terry and Betty’s legacy… all while satisfying your sweet tooth! Order yours today! Please contact: Airport Coffee Shop 604-792-0814 46244 Airport Road, Chilliwack B.C. www.airportcoffeeshop.com

Description:

How do you protect your house or apartment from a break-in? What will keep your possessions safe from thieves? How can you be safe when you're walking, jogging, driving or cycling around Chilliwack?

Being secure is the topic of a free, public workshop on home and vehicle, personal and family safety to be held June 25 at 7pm at the Pacific Region Training Centre. Law-enforcement experts from RCMP and Chilliwack Community Policing will share tips and strategies to help all local residents be safe.

The event is an outgrowth of public forums held recently by Chilliwack Healthier Community (CHC), which identified and prioritized community concerns in a number of areas.

The workshop will be repeated July 30 at the Yarrow Community Centre (this event will include a BBQ competition). CHC is committed to resolving complex social issues by facilitating new partnerships among local service providers and the public, to increase accessibility to services and streamline their delivery.

For more information on the public-safety workshops, contact the CHC Coordinator Sabine Mendez at [email protected] or phone 604-703-8096.

Free Risk Training for Chilliwack FarmersJun 30, 2014 - Jun 30, 2014
Location: Hampton Inn, 8050 Lickman Rd.
Contact: Wendy Bennett, FARSHA 604 881-6078
E-Mail: [email protected]
Description:

Risk Training for Fraser Valley Farmers. Fraser Valley farmers and agricultural employers are invited to a training session on identifying potentially dangerous confined spaces and their hazards led by the Farm and Ranch Safety and Health Association (FARSHA). Deaths and injuries in confined spaces are rare but can happen suddenly, often without warning that something is wrong. Working in and cleaning feed bins, milk tanks, ventilation systems, pump sheds, fermentation tanks, silos and manure ponds can expose workers to toxic gases and other hazards that may be present. In high enough concentrations, they can cause death in seconds in enclosed spaces. Since 2000, 18 workers have lost their lives in confined spaces in B.C. in a number of industries including agriculture. WorkSafeBC’s new confined spaces in agriculture on-line portal is a resource for employers and workers to identify and work safely in confined spaces on B.C. farms and ranches. WorkSafeBC developed resources with FARSHA for eight specific types of farm operations in eight languages that are available on-line or in booklet form.
