Contact: Mary Chalmers Main, publicity co-ordinator, CVAA 604-793-4477
E-Mail: marycm83@shaw.ca
Description:

Donna Hitchens’ Press Release - Donna’s or Donya’s art is known as “Visionary Art” which is a title related to self-taught artists. Her creations are a result of her adaptations within the style known as Modern Art today. Donna’s paintings are an expression of her feelings, using acrylic on canvas. She begins by thinking about a subject she may have seen, or begun to imagine. They begin with bright colours, and the brush strokes express her desire to highlight her vision of what lies within the abstract thought. Whether that vision is of an animal, a flower, or a person, the work is meant to draw attention to the parts of the painting that will stir a feeling expressed by the colours and what else lies within. Donna originally worked with pottery and clay sculptures, and then changed over to acrylic painting in 1995. Since then her work has been accepted and shown in many venues since 2004, including being in the Lobby Art in the Cultural Centre, in January 2016.

The meeting will run from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. “Each year, the BC SPCA helps more than 43,000 abandoned, abused, neglected and injured animals and we could not do this without the incredible support we get from our volunteers and supporters in communities across the province,” said BC SPCA CEO Craig Daniell. “We encourage anyone who wants to make their community safer and more humane for animals to attend their local SPCA’s AGM to learn more about the past year’s activities and to find out how they can be involved in saving animal lives.” The Chilliwack branch will be electing its new community council at the AGM. The featured speaker at this year’s AGM will be Sarah Jones, Regional Manager for the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley, and Sheila Kullar, Regional Director for the Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley & Sunshine Coast BC SPCA board of directors. They will be delivering a presentation on how we can each make a difference in the animal world and how involvement in the BC SPCA can shape the future of humane communities.
