Mondays, Oct 16 – Dec 11 (except Nov 13), 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm. Discover fun with rhymes, songs, and stories! This is an interactive program for babies 15 months and younger AND caregivers. Mother Goose helps you learn ways to encourage your child's language and social/emotional development. Healthy snacks will be provided. Registration starts Sept 18. The November Meeting of the Chilliwack/FV Retro-Computing Club will take place 6:30PM – 8:30PM on Thursday November 2, 2017 at the Sardis Library - 5819 Tyson Rd, Sardis, BC V2R 3R6. This FREE event is open to anyone that is interested in video games or vintage hardware. The theme will be DOS Games! Bring anything (vintage or current) that you can run a DOS game on and your favourite game. It would be cool to see some interesting game controllers if you have one. Bringing hardware is optional, if you just want to see what the club is about, just drop by anytime during the meeting and we will be glad to share knowledge and experiences.

2 pm – 3:30 pm. Did you know that almost ½ of Canadians don’t know how much of their working income will be replaced by CPP/OAS? Are you one of those seniors or pre-retirees with questions about your entitlement to Canada’s pension plans? This session, presented by Service Canada, will help you make informed decisions about your eligibility and benefits. Topics covered will include CPP Survivor benefits, benefits for the children of a deceased or disabled contributor, Credit Splitting, Pension Sharing, the Child Rearing Provision, Old Age Security and the Guaranteed Income Supplement. A portion of the program will focus specifically on disability benefits. Registration is required for this free program. Chilliwack & District Seniors’ Resources Society is presenting a community education session on Fire Safety and Emergency Preparedness on November 8th at Evergreen Hall. Please RSVP if you would like to attend this free session. Fire Safety presented by: Peter Kuhr— Public Educator, City of Chilliwack Fire Department. Being fire safe in our homes is so important for all ages. Working smoke detectors and a home escape plan are vital in being able to evacuate your home safely. General fire safety does not just stop there. There are many other things that can be done to keep you and your home fire safe. Personal Preparedness presented by: Chris Wilson– Assistant Chief, City of Chilliwack Fire Department. What would you do if an emergency services person knocked on your door and told you to leave your home within ten minutes? Having a plan in place and a Grab and Go kit are a start. Taking some time now to prepare for an event will minimize the stress and fear that often accompanies an emergency disaster.

3 pm – 4 pm. Do you have diabetes or risk factors for diabetes? Do you know what the potential risk factors are? London Drugs Pharmacist Brian Kim is a Certified Diabetes Educator who will talk about types of diabetes, signs and symptoms, risk factors, complications, medications and complementary therapies. Come and learn how to manage your diabetes and live your life to the fullest.

7 pm – 8 pm. Join local author Meredith Egan as she discusses the theme of restorative justice in her first novel, “Just Living”. Dr. Meredith Egan has worked with crime victims and prisoners for more than 25 years. The stories she’s heard inspired her to write fiction. Restorative Justice is a complicated idea with roots from many places, and is celebrated internationally with events and awards in the month of November each year. Copies of her novel will be available for purchase following the reading, cash only.

1 pm – 3 pm. Hearing loss can be so gradual that you don’t even notice it. You might feel people are not speaking clearly or loudly enough. To assist in understanding hearing loss, Connect Hearing is hosting an information session followed by free Hearing Health Checks. A Hearing Health Check takes about 15 minutes and is your first step towards better hearing. Your results will be explained clearly by a registered Hearing Professional from Connect Hearing. Be sure to attend this free presentation where you will have an opportunity to learn about available solutions. Registration for this event is recommended, drop ins are welcome.

Annual drive to collect gently used blankets, coats, and warm winter clothing for the homeless. All items donated locally will be distributed to local charities who in turn will give to the homeless. Articles for youth will be brought to the Cyrus Centre on Wellington Avenue.

Cyrus Centre's Annual Dessert Gala is happening on November 17th. Join us in raising criticial funds to go towards providing safe housing to youth who may be experiencing homelessness, abuse, neglect, poverty, addiction, mental illness and sexual exploitation. This evening includes a sit down dessert, silent and live auctions, guest speakers and live music. Cyrus Centre provides emergency housing and 24 hour support for at risk youth in the Fraser Valley. It is Cyrus Centre’s goal to prevent and reduce youth homelessness in our community. At Cyrus Centre, youth have access to support and space where they can develop skills and relationships that will allow them to live full and happy lives and be a positive influence in the community. 2017 has been a full year at Cyrus Centre. Cyrus Centre is excited about the future of the organization and looking at the various ways in which it plans to grow. So far in 2017, Cyrus Centre has seen lives changed, relationships restored, and youth who were once without a place to sleep find a place to call home. We have also seen tragedies, mourned losses, and seen youth struggle. We have been able to start much needed programs and grow existing ones. 43rd Annual Chilliwack Christmas Craft Market & Fundraiser for the Chilliwack Community Arts Council Market. 1:30 pm – 3 pm. Students aged 9 to 18 are invited to come and create designs out of Perler beads. Participants will design their creations and then melt them together to make magnets or keychains! Even if you don't think you’re artistic, Perler bead crafts are foolproof and fun!

A film festival showcasing true independent films from across the Canada and the globe. A special focus on BC filmmakers in particular. A platform for emerging and already establish professionals to screen their work. There will be Feature Films, Short Films, Documentaries, Music Videos and more with an award ceremony and Q & A sessions after each screening block.

Stop by Chilliwack Opportunity Society for their Annual General Meeting. Learn a bit about the Society, enjoy some light refreshments, and meet the staff and Board of Directors. Doors open at 6:00, the meeting will start at 6:30.

7 pm - 8:30 pm. Join local author, storyteller and motivational speaker Glenda Standeven as she reads from her new work, a story in “Chicken Soup for the Soul: Dreams and the Unexplained: 101 Eye Opening Stories about Premonitions and Miracles”. Glenda is a cancer survivor who inspires others with her humorous and inspiring messages of optimism, determination and empowerment. www.glendastandeven.com . 11 am – 12:30 pm. Create a colourful craft using these small heat activated beads. Make a Critter, Rainbow Heart, Peace Sign, Pokémon, Superhero, Sports Logo, Video Game Character…the possibilities are endless! Attach a key ring or magnet and you’re good to go! Please allow extra time at the end of the program for the melting process. Ironing will be done by Library Staff. For ages 8 – 13 yrs old. Registration is required.

2 pm – 4 pm. Get some face painting practice in using the Library’s face paints. Practice on yourself or a friend to see what kind of crazy faces you can make! Love the look? Take a cool picture of your fantastic face with our Green Screen! Registration is required.

1:30 pm – 3 pm. Introducing Sphero SPRK+, the cutest little robot in town! Come to the Chilliwack Library and up your STEAM skills at our Maze Mayhem program. With an iPad and your teammates, you will learn to write code and program Sphero to navigate through a maze you design. This program requires registration and is suitable for grades 6-12. Parents are welcome to attend and help with coding and programming.
