Come and share your surplus homegrown fruits and veggies with Ruth & Naomi's Mission for their dinner program and weekly produce hampers! When: Every Monday evening between 5 and 7 pm from July 7 till October 6, 2014. Who: Everyone is welcome! Drop in with your locally grown excess fruit/ vegetable harvest for washing and weighing. Why: Because we value quality, homegrown produce, and want to provide an opportunity for locals to share their excess produce with others in our community. The total weight of all the produce collected will be recorded as part of the Plant a Row Grow a Row national campaign. The produce donated will be delivered to Ruth & Naomi's at the end of each drop off.

In the Final bout of the 2014 season Chilliwack’s NWO Wolfpack is taking on the Thompson Okanagan All Star Team (TOAST) on October 4th at the Chilliwack Landing Sports Centre. NWO’s record is at 2 wins and 3 losses for the season heading in to this final home bout. Doors open at 5pm and the first whistle is at 6pm. Admission is one for $8 or two for $12 and kids under 12 are free. This event will host a beer garden and vendor village including vendors such as: Jack and Audreys organic baby and beauty products, Soda Shoppe Skates, La Belle Macaron, Isogenix, Chic Boutique and many more.

Every year, on the first Saturday of October at 11:00 am, mothers and children unite at different sites around the world to compete in the annual Quintessence Breastfeeding Challenge to set a record for the most children breastfeeding at one time. The Challenge strives to increase public awareness of the normality of breastfeeding, the benefits to mother, child and community and the ways in which women need support to achieve the recommended duration for breastfeeding. Last year, Chilliwack had 162 babies breastfed simultaneously placing us first in North America and tied for first place out of 220 sites in the world! This is an amazing achievement and we are proud that our community is so supportive about the health and wellness of our children. Starting with a pre-formed mask as the base, instructor Pat Gerlach will guide you through the process on how to make a professional looking mask that will complete your Halloween costume or can be used as a piece of art to hang on your wall. Kids Art Journal. Tuesdays, Oct 14, 21, 28, Nov 4. 3:30 - 4:30 pm. Age: 7 - 12. A fun and creative way to document your days, practice new art techniques or just plain doodle. In this series, instructor, Stephanie Brubaker demonstrates many different mixed media, paint and layering techniques to make the covers and pages of an art journal. Saturday, Oct 18 from 2:00 – 5:00 pm join the Chilliwack Community Arts Council for our first annual fundraising event: The Pottery Bowl. The event will take place at The Art Room: 20-5725 Vedder Rd. For $20 patrons will enjoy a bowl of freshly made soup and take the pottery bowl of their choice home with them. These one-of-a-kind bowls have all been handmade by local potters Holly McKeen, Kelly McQuhae, Jan Pratt, and Sue Schellenberg, and have been decorated by twenty-seven local celebrities. Once you select your bowl, the artist responsible for creating it will be revealed. There will be live music provided by artist Mark Andre, as well as a local harvest market on site, courtesy of Greendale Herb and Vine, to add to the festivities. Be captivated by an utterly magical experience with our Classical Music Series. These intimate mornings of classical music will begin with complimentary coffee, tea, and delicious baked treats before patrons settle down to enjoy the joyous and uplifting sounds of fantastic classical musicians. Hosted by Sarah Hagen, the innovative and exciting young Vancouver pianist, the Classical Music Series brings a collection of virtuoso musicians in to the Cultural Centre to duet with a figure that has been named “the rising star of Canadian classical music”. Beginning the 2014/15 series with a soothing tone will be the award-winning Polish flutist Krysztof Kaczka, the solo flutist of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, and a regular chamber performer that has been heard from North America to South-East Asia and Australia.
