The City of Chilliwack remembers Moncton RCMP members June 9, 2014

The City of Chilliwack is saddened by the loss of Cst. Douglas James Larche, Cst. Dave Joseph Ross, and Cst. Fabrice Georges Gevaudan who were killed in Moncton, N.B. on June 4, 2014 and wish to express our deepest condolences.

In order for our community to express their sympathies and share words of comfort, a condolence book has been set up at Chilliwack City Hall (8550 Young Street) which will be sent to Moncton N.B. The book is beside the front doors in the lobby of City Hall.

“Our hearts and thoughts are with the family, friends and fellow RCMP members as they cope with this devastating loss,” said Mayor Sharon Gaetz. “We hope this small token of our sympathies will be meaningful to those going through this tragedy.”

On June 10 City Hall will fly the flags at half mast in honour of the fallen RCMP members. On that day, residents can also choose to wear red in remembrance. According to a Facebook campaign, the spouses of the RCMP created this as a way for people to show support for the fallen Moncton RCMP officers on the day of the memorial service.

“Tragedies such as this remind us that police work is inherently dangerous, and we thank all our RCMP officers in Chilliwack and across Canada for putting themselves at risk for public safety,” said Mayor Gaetz. “I know I’ll be wearing red tomorrow as a small way of showing my support.”
