Heritage Plaque Presentation Information:
Date: May 22, 2014
Time: 2:30pm
Location: The Brock House at 46063 Gore Avenue

The Brock House was constructed in 1910 as a one and one-half storey, wood-frame Craftsman Bungalow, located in the Mountain View neighbourhood, close to downtown Chilliwack. It features a medium-pitched hipped roof with symmetrical hipped dormers on all sides, an inset front verandah and a tall corbelled red brick chimney.

This historically significant house is a valuable record of the urban and social development of the residential area adjacent to downtown Chilliwack in the early years of the twentieth century. This was one of the first houses built in the Mountain View subdivision, which was a very desirable area due to its proximity to the commercial downtown and developing transportation routes. The wealthy and successful in the growing community of Chilliwack chose to build their family homes in the Mountain View area. The advent of the British Columbia Electric Railway interurban line in 1911 connected the Fraser Valley communities to Vancouver and stimulated further population growth.

The Brock House at 46063 Gore Avenue is a well-maintained residential property. It maintains its original residential use, with recent renovations by the owner to improve its overall condition.
