Funding Partnership for Flood Protection Infrastructure in Chilliwack

The City of Chilliwack is pleased to receive Federal and Provincial funding towards the upgrade of the Collinson Pump Station as part of the City’s flood protection plan.

The Collinson Pump Station is situated adjacent to Chilliwack’s dyke system and helps protect the community from flooding from the Fraser River and Vedder River. The upgrade project will increase the pumping capacity of the station to ensure protection against a 1 in 100 year rainfall or flood event.

The mechanical upgrades proposed for the station include replacing the existing pumps and related internal piping, motors, controls, back-up power supply and electrical systems. As the proposed motor upgrade will have a significant increase in horsepower, an upgrade to the existing electrical service at the pump station will be required.

“The City of Chilliwack pleased that our partners in the Federal and Provincial governments continue to recognize that the long term protection of our flood prevention infrastructure is an important priority and we look forward to working with all levels of government to ensure our residents, livestock and infrastructure are protected from future flood events,” said Sharon Gaetz, Mayor, City of Chilliwack.

The total cost of the Collinson Pump Station upgrade is estimated at $2.5 million. The Federal and Provincial grants of $1,666,666 is a substantial contribution to the overall project cost. Upgrades will commence in late May 2014, with an estimated completion date of early 2015.
