Burn Awareness Information & Burn Fund
The BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund’s 18th Annual Burn Awareness Week (BAW) program ran from February 2 to 8, 2014. It is designed to teach kids to be responsible for their own safety, and help make their families aware of potentially harmful situations. The BAW program is educational, fun, and interactive. The program is divided into age-appropriate safety lessons, intended for Pre-School to Grade 7.
Along with the education students are encouraged to submit posters on burn safety to the BC Professional Fire Fighters Burn Fund for the chance to win prizes and pizza for their class. This year Chilliwack had many winners including Laurene Boer, a grade 4 student from Timothy Christian School, as a regional winner. The Chilliwack Fire Department attended Lauren’s school to present her with her prize and have some fun with her class. Firefighters spent time discussing fire safety and showing Lauren’s class the fire truck.
This year had students from all over the province compete with Chilliwack winning six honorable mentions and one regional prize winner. Regional winners receive $500.00 for their school and a pizza party for their class. Honorable Mention winners receive $50.00 for their school and a stuffed Dalmatian for themselves. We would encourage all students and teachers to get involved in this great program.
